Poll Question need opinions!

I am thinking about buying a intake for the car cant decide which intake to get or why. Would like high quality but still something that gives decent amount of power, I do not have an access port or custom tune and may not be able to get one for a while. With that being said I am leaning towards the Injen cai but am open for other opinions and am curious to hear from others with intakes of their own. 2nd option would just be to cough up the couple hundred more and get Cobb Access Port. So please vote in poll.

D) None of the above
Way to vague. What are your intentions, what have you done so far, what are your goals?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a CAI unless I had a NA engine.

If you won't be able to get a tune for awhile, buying the intake is useless since you will need a tune after it is installed. IMO, take your money and buy a tactrix cable and a boost pill and download one of Bryan's basemaps.

I definitely would get a tune after getting one. Really vague answers tho!

Will they back up their claim by buying you a new engine if you melt a piston? If not, play it safe and get a tune.

I did not post on your poll because after reading your comments I probably would not suggest any of your options. Even though I use a Cobb AP and am now running the Stage 2 tune (which requires a full turbo back exhaust), a less expensive and far more effective solution than just adding an intake is to use Bryan's GST tune and a boost pill.

The Cobb AP is very easy to use and the Stage 1 93 Octane tune (which requires no mods) provides an impressive result compared to the stock tune, but IMHO Bryan's tune with a boost pill is probably a little better Lord knows it is a whole lot less expensive!

As an alternative rather than investing in an intake, maybe another thought might be simply considering buying a $45.00 K&N filter for your OEM intake.

I think this excerpt from the linked article below makes a pretty strong case for this alternative idea:

Notes The new filter delivered impressive hp and torque across the board, with a gain of 8.1 hp and 5.2 lb-ft of torque at peak performance. The dyno also recorded impressive top-end gains of 8 hp and 7 lb-ft of torque at 5,900 rpm.

You need the Openport 2.0. Head over here and do some reading. Most of what you need to know is all in the first post.

The OpenPort 2.0 unit.

My humble suggestions while you're shopping on tactrix' website...
  • DO buy the OBD2 Extension Cable (so you don't kick the OP2.0 and ruin it).
  • DO buy the 2GB Micro SD Card (for standalone logging).
  • DON'T buy the extra "Mitsubishi Reflash Adapter" (you don't need it for the RA).

spend your money on a tactrix cable and a donation to Bryan for the GST base map... that will net you WAY more power than an intake for a good bit less money.

Intake is not going to do much for the tiny stock snail.
