Figuring out my boost.

Sorry guys, but I am a complete n00b on performance cars. This is kind of like a hobby so I do not have professional level knowledge.

Given that ... if I understand correctly, boost is how much the air is compressed right? So, a higher boost would produce more power. Secondly, I would like to figure out what the boost for my RA was from factory & where do I stand now after a few upgrades. How can I do this?

OpenPort 2.0 + EvoScan + OpenOffice.org...

or

OpenPort2.0 standalone logging + OpenOffice.org...

to view the raw data

or

buy a boost gauge...

W/ OpenPort2.0 you can create 3rd gear pulls logs, and then run the logs through VirtualDyno or Virtual Dyno Room to parse the data and get a rough idea for your power...

Start with the tuning-guide stickies in the EvoX section...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ng-forums-257/

Find, download and digest Merlin's EvoX+Ralliart tuning guide doc. Here, it seems...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...de-please.html

Read the Evo9-section "How to Tune an Evo" - most of it is the same...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...-tune-evo.html

As nunyas said, buy yourself a Taxtrix OpenPort 2.0 hardware interface. Buy EvoScan.

Read lots! There are many, many good tuning threads on here (plus on the "other" site, EvoXForums).

If you've slapped on a few things like exhaust and/or intake, it won't be the boost you'll get interested in. You'll be looking at knock, fuel trims, air-fuel ratio (with a wideband oxygen sensor installed), timing. All that stuff tells you how well your engine is running with your current mods.

You're about to go down a rabbit hole with no apparent end. Have fun!

Be careful tuning on your own. Make sure you read up a lot before you decide that you are ready to mess with how your car runs, especially if you are a "n00b"
