Rogue hose

I noticed today that a hose had come off from my engine. I suppose it has been off for a while now, since there was some oily residue that had come out from the outlet on top of the engine. I suppose it's the breather tube, wonder what had made it come off, the hose clamp was completely missing.

I put it back on with a new clamp, has anything similar happened to you? And what function has this hose anyway...

Definately looks like they forgot to replace the clamp. FYI, that's your valve cover breather tube. It's a component of the PCV system. Having it popped off doesn't usually cause any harm other than oil residue in your engine bay, unless debris gets sucked in. That problem is uncommon since during engine operation, gasses are leaving the head via that pipe, even with the breather off (any blow-by or moisture present in the valve cover leaves via that pipe).
After the engine is shut down, the temperature drops, and therefore the air pressure in the valve cover decreases and air will enter via that pipe. This is when debris can enter the valve cover. Because this happens slowly, large particles in the area around the pipe will be too heavy to be drawn in. If you're worried about the small particles that would have been drawn in, do an oil change. I wouldn't be too concerned about it tho.

Don't forget the other end of that line is in the intake manifold right above runner #4 so this allows un metered air into the system and screws up idle trims as well as creating a boost leak unless there is a one way valve on the manifold side, and i don't think there is... could be but not sure.

Thanks a bunch guys, I knew I'd find an answer here I suppose it must have come off last spring when they did some TSB work on my car. Have to remind them about this...

Good call. I for some reason thought it went straight to the intake before the turbo, like most cars. I didn't realize it went into the intake mani (I've never checked). You'd think there would be a check valve at the intake mani, that would be the safe thing... but there probably isn't.

Have the dealership look into your history to see who performed the fuel return pipe recall, that's the person that needs to be held responsible

Moderator....shouldn't this thread be a sticky since it's a common problem with the RA/EVOX?

That hose can blow off all the time. Get some zip ties and attach it firmly (or hairspray heat gun deal).

This can lead to engine failure! Several threads on blown engines due to this.

Zip ties!!

Wrong hose. That is a fuel-management hose that you are thinking of. You can see in that picture that the hose in question is securely attached.

(That hose is the bane of my existence, by the way.)

Edit: Sorry to hicjack this thread, is there a thread pertaining to the other hose that always blows off (the fuel management one that is the bane of NFS)...

I want to make sure I zip that SOB down. I want to make sure it's the right one.

There is a thread. I think it is the X section. I definitely made sure to zip tie that down after reading the thread.
