Hello everyone,

My tuner recently fell off the face of the planet and has stopped calling me back. He's a local small time guy here but he specializes in RA and Evo's so it's kind of a bummer.

That being said, he was adamant that I need an AEM UEGO A/F gauge for his tune.

I spoke to Cobb Tuning last week and apparently they are really upping the support in regards to maps for the Ralliart and EvoX. They are going to include different mod combo's, etc...

It kind of works out because I'm able to get 94 octane in my area, but if I ever take a road trip it's nice to have the 91 octane switch in case the 93/94 is not available.

That brings me to my question: Is it necessary to have a A/F gauge with the Acessport?

NO.

I have run the AP on my car for the last 6 months, no AFR gauge. Even now with significantly increased power over stock, I just had the AFR set at the tune, and now I only check STFT and LTFT on my Cobb AP to verify things are working properly.

I did have an extra bung installed in my HF Cat allowing the option of adding a UEGO type AF Gauge at some point, but in answer to your question, it is not REQUIRED.

local small guy are u talking about Kassander (sp?)..

to answer ur question, no its not *required* per say... but its always good to have one when ure tuned (or not)
u can always argue that "if the tune was done correctly, u wouldn't need it"... but u know .. **** happens ...

Required: No
Good Idea: Absolutely

I assume your local guy wanted you to have one because he was not using a facility the provided wideband data. In that case, I would say yes, required.

Yes, Kassander, but he hasn't answered my emails/phone calls so I called Cobb and they seem to be planning a lot of support for the Ralliart in the next little while. Like I said, it's nice to be able to switch between 91/93 octane in necessary too.

Well thanks everyone! I did have the extra wideband bung put on all my exhaust pieces if I ever do decide to put one on.

I'll just montior and log the data through the AP to verify it from time to time when I get it.

Hopefully they release the news maps soon for the extra mod support!!

Thanks again everyone.

ps: I have the Ultimate Racing boost pill, even though Cobb doesn't specify it, is that okay to run with their maps? I think I'm going to give them a call...find out a few answers on things.

In February COBB tech told me that they are working on new maps. When i called them at the end of May they told me that they are not and are not planning to do so any time soon. I think they just BS everybody and tell them what they want to hear. Think about it you already paid for the AP what incentive they have to make you a new map and dont get paid for it?!?

You need to make sure you are using a map intended for a boost pill and that the orifice is the correct size for the map. Otherwise you will over-boost.

That was before they contracted Tephra to do rom development for them. I would expect to see a lot more from them in the near future.

No doubt, Tephra seems to be the man, and should have an impact on Cobb. I heard the same thing, and it seems they have pretty good ideas for both short term, and longer term MAP releases for the RA. I would have to guess they must also have plans for more EVO options as well.

OP:

Caution Will Robinson, Caution Will Robinson:

Please do not try to use a boost pill with your Cobb AP without a custom pro tune. If you do, you might want to order some french fries to go with those burned valves...

I was told the same thing recently about them developping a lot of new maps and support for the RA/Evo.

Worst case, I was givent he option of doing an ETune with their guy in Socal and he has really reasonable prices which is great.

OP, why not use the FREE basemaps offered by GST? This would be a great start for a tune on a RA with no to minimal mods.
