Boost Leak Sound??

Hi,

Recently installed an evo x fmic along with a new UICP. At first I had a boost leak since i did not realize the LICP had a dimple on the front and bottom, it was very loud. I have fixed that, however I still hear a bit of a whistle sound, it actually more sounds like there is a siren approaching from the distance. This sound is not very loud and more pronounce when engine is cold. I am just wondering if I still have a leak. I have logged my car and I am still making 23psi (GST basemap with pill). I have checked, double and triple checked, so just wondering if this is the sound associated with installing a hard UICP. Thanks.

I have a slight siren sound, at low boost, worse when the engine is cold. Been told by several sources the t/c is out of balance. Nobody has said it is a grenade-in-waiting - just one of those things you can have happen in turbo world.

And as for the dimple... the one that caters for the weird harmonic-vibration-damper-whatever-bar thingy fitted to the RA below the big front crashbar? Most of the pics I've seen of larger FMICs and piping show people have removed that bar. I didn't - instead, I used a very special high-tech tool to lightly "modify" the Evo X LICP - it now has the exact same dimple.

Hammer?

BTW, I have the cop siren too. Don't think it's a balance thing. Think it was planned by Mitsu to fool the police when driving fast.

I suspect it is just induction noise since the RA airbox is much nearer the firewall and drivers head than in the X. You could always pop the snorkel off the airbox and go for a quick drive to see if it gets louder with the snorkel off.

Thanks for the replies......guess it will just be another sound I will have to get used to. For me the siren sound is worse in 3-4th gear at around 2500-3000rpm, but like I said seems to go away once engine warms up. Thanks again.

I found the whole Evo X FMIC, UICP, LICP combination a total, utter pain in the butt to fit. Very aggravating - no doubt a skill-level thing. So it was really nice to find a part of the job that involved hitting stuff with a hammer.

In the end, I got it all on - securely fitted, no leaks.

Got that siren sound after installing GST basemap and having some hot laps after it. The sound appeared immediately the same evening. Still the car doesn't "drink" oil and everything is ok with performance. Just guessing is it about turbo, or fuel pump, or some restrictors or what else?

lol the sound was more noticeable after i installed the GST basemap too its just the turbo spooling up. The GST basemap increases boost from 19.5 to 21-22ish and it spools up sooner. I like the noise, its the turbo sucking in all the air hehe nothin to worry bout.
