Performance over appearance, help me find a discreet sounding exhaust
Performance over appearance, help me find a discreet sounding exhaust
So I'm going to start performance enhancing my 2011 Sportback. I have ordered intercooler with piping, drop in filter, EVO X BOV and boost pill, so far so good.
As for exhaust enhancements, I'm at a loss. I don't want to get anything too obtrusive because I don't want to wake up my neighbors every time I ascend up the hill to my house. I'm just not that guy who wants to attract attention by being loud and since this is my daily driver I want comfort for me and my passengers on longer highway drives as well.
With this in mind I'm looking to get a HFC and a catback, possibly a TB. So what should I buy that gets me the most amount of flow for the least amount of sound?

Yup, looking for a quiet setup too... Hunting for youtube videos sucks.
Its saddening to see people put up exhaust videos that are incomplete. We don't want Hwy Drone and we don't want TinCan.
I want stealth mode while around town and crusin on the hwy, and I want ANGRY F'Off sound at 75%-WOT. Is that too much to ask?

You could keep your stock catback and just replace the downpipe and cat. That's the stealthiest option for sure. Changing the stock catback exhaust really doesn't provide any notable performance improvement anyway (3-5hp vs 30+ for changing the cat) and only gets restrictive for the fanciest of builds. Though if you want something just a bit louder the Magnaflow (which I have on my vehicle) is pretty quiet for cruising and certainly wakes up when you step on it. I've heard that the Ultimate Racing exhaust with the muffler and a resonator option is actually very reasonable as well.
I recently purchased an HKS catback from a member here. He wanted something quieter and when we met up for the sale his car had an injen exhaust on it. The car was super quiet almost stock like the only reason I new it wasn't stock was the cams he had gave it away with the idle lope. I'd recommend that for stock like sound.
I've got the Magnaflow Cat-Back and its a great in-between setup. It's loud wen you want it to be but is relatively quiet when your cruising. I drove to Florida and back from Indiana with two passengers and it was never too loud. It's a good Daily Driver exhaust

I've been checking out the Ultimate Racing with muffler and resonator, that may be an option. Anyone with that setup who cares to comment on its noise level?
Works has a stealthy option with the Exhale StealthWORKS Performance Muffler, anyone on this forum with experience of it?
I've heard about the whole rust thing, yeah. I've had it for one month of winter so it's too soon to tell. In any case, I'm pretty sure that a lot of people just don't wash off the salt from the bottom of their vehicles often enough and then feel surprised when their parts get rusty.
Even if it does get rusty down the road, as long as it doesn't leak, that doesn't matter that much.

My setup is pretty quiet, depo dp depo hfc 2 vibrant resonators and a vibrant streetpower flat black out back, on the freeway the exhaust is no louder than the tire noise you can have a conversation without raising your voice at all. The cat back part of the exhaust cost 500 parts/labor and it sounds awesome at wot

EDIT: Forget about it, found the dp on the next page.
Haven't seen Vibrant, going to check them out.

Any opinions on a Electric test pipe cut out? like the one in this vid
I think it's a pretty neat setup. Stealth when you want. Loud when you want. At the flick of a switch :/
Can anyone tell if that's the stock exhaust in the vid btw?
$375 from QTP. really thinking of getting this :/
