Is my Tranny going?

Hi all

Hopping someone can shed some light on this situation I am having.

When i am taking off from a stop and give it a generous amount of gas, it feels like my front tires are spinning but it's actually the clutch slipping bad. the dealership calls it chattering. Well the other day it did it and then it slammed into gear with a loud and ferocious bang and the whole car shook. The dealership says i need a new tranny. It doesn't happen all the time but often enough.

Also I have this issue.
When I give it a good amount of gas when speeding up the RPM jump 200-300 rpm before it shifts.
Here is a vid. watch from the time the # changes from 4-5 and the RPM jumps.
It does this often.

Is the dealer correct that I need a new tranny?

Thanks

When's the last time you changed the fluid and filter? How much power putting down? You do realize your suppose to change fluid every 30,000ish miles right?

The video didn't show much of a problem. My car does this in the mornings before the engine warms up. Its a small amount of slipping, but nothing that is out of the ordinary. If it slips like this all the time, you are probably in need of a new transmission sooner than later. Also, the fact that your car will JERK from excess of power is very concerning. I'd say the dealer is actually correct for once.

I also noticed you were driving in normal mode instead of sport. Try switching to sport and seeing if the slipping still occurs.

I got my tranny fluid changed at the dealership 1 week ago today.
I mentioned changing the filter but they said that you should never change the filter..... what??? are you ****ing serious?? that's what i said. It was changed within the factory specs for changing it (48k km)

I have full bolt on's with the stage 3 GST map

It was doing this before the fluid change and still now after.
It happens in normal and sport makes no difference.

Now here is an other thing. when i went to get the fluid changed they took off the filter to look at it. and put it back without changing the O ring. so now I got tranny fluid all over my under panel. It leaked so getting that replaced wednesday and we will see if it is better.

Oh and I have S-Sport and LC on and used LC a few times last summer.

LC and S-Sport are fun, but costly. Good luck man!

If they are gonna get me a new tranny (under warranty) can mitsu see if i flashed my ECU or not?
Or if LC was added?

The tech said no but i just want to be sure.

Thanks

Id pull the filter and look yourself. Its right behind your driver front wheel. If it looks bad, Replace it with ssps aluminum filter that they have a warranty on. Just clean it every oil change. Im curious as to what that filter of yours looks like even if they so called changed it

Oh they didn't change it. just took it off looked at it and said it was still fine. they could "see through it"

Oh and an other thing. I bought the car december 2013 and it had 12k km on it. it was a managers demo so it was basically sitting for 2 years not moving.

From what I've read on other threads, they can see how many times it has been flashed. Even if not, the dealership obviously knows you're running mods, so your warranty is probably long gone.

Concerning the filter, those things get trashed pretty bad. I've seen pics of filters that got clogged up far before the fluid change, and the replacement filters aren't that much, relative to the cost of fluid. Even if they say it doesn't need replaced, I would insist on it.

The dealership is "mod friendly" so i still have warranty.
My buddy had his tranny replaced under warranty and he had the boost pill, GST map on it and they never noticed so i believe they cannot tell. I heard that the "torque issue" recall was a counter that they install. I do not have that installed and neither did my buddy.

Personally i think I just need a complete flush and new oil with a new filter.
But they insist that these issues mean it is going.

My other buddy had the chattering and when he did a mineral oil flush it went away.

I may get mineral oil and just flush it out myself and see

I do have a new filter already but gonna make them get a new one as they are the ones that messed it up!

Dealer broke something by not filling correct amount of fluid or damaged your filter housing when they put it back on. Is it still leaking?

It's good that your dealer is mod friendly.

But I will still be very careful. If your buddy got away with the gst map and pill, that doesn't mean you can too.

There's a bulletin that Mitsu issued regarding the S-Sport and LC on Ralliarts. I just couldn't find the link but I saw it myself. It says there that before doing any powertrain related work on Ralliarts, check for S-Sport first. And if it's present, warranty is void.

So be extra careful. I'm not sure how much Mitsu pays the tech for warranty work on transmission replacement. But as a tech, I know for sure that most warranty pays sucks!

Do you drive very conservative though? Coz I'm thinking, our trannies are programmed to adjust to every driver's style.

And this scenario happened once to me when I was driving like a granny. Then I thought, the clutch was slipping. Then I switch to sport mode, then drive a little bit but really not much aggressive. And it didn't happen anymore.

Try that! make sure they double check your tranny fluid's level. Coz definitely, you lost some already.

I know its $600 to do a flush this way but use ssp pro gold fluid and get their reusable filter. Well worth the money. Especially the filter cuz I believe theyre $100 a pop when the reusable one (which has 3x the surface area) is $190
