Oil filter question

I've always been told that the OEM Mitsubishi oil filter is the best type to use with our cars. I'm not going to question it as I've had Mitsu mechanics who are good friends of mine tell me the same as well as a few others.

My question is that there are 2 part numbers that pop up either starting with MD or MZ I believe. One is made from Japan and the other is like China or Taiwan or something. I believe our cars come new with the Japan one on the block from the factory.

Is it worth seeking out the Japan made one cause I believe most dealerships will carry the cheaper of the 2. I just wanted to ask if it's worth the trouble to seek it out.

I think the claim that the OEM filters are best was proven incorrect here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...63t-4b11t.html

That link has a ton of useful info, I found it while looking for a new filter. I ended up going with Purolator. While I use Amsoil oil I didn't want to spend that much on a filter. From the test done Purolator was very close to Amsoil but about half the price. Haven't had any issues so far, been in for about 2,000 miles.

Gotcha. Usually I use the Napa(Wix) or a Bosch filter on my car but while I was at 03chi-town0Z's house he was telling me that the OEM was the best one to use.

I liked the idea of Purolator's filtration however the thickness of the filter made me concerned about how well it flowed and whether or not under hard conditions that we drive our cars slower flow might cause problems.
