So far its not chipping on its own. I chipped it a little when i was rotating my tires and slightly curbed one wheel, barely noticeable though
. And there are some i missed right where i put the index cards in between the tire and the very edge of the rim, u really have to get up close to see all of these. So it's pretty much owner's error
If you ask me the paint is pretty good and serves it purpose but by all means if you have the money, want it professionally done and don't mind your car being down a few days to a week then get the powdercoat. I personally would rather spend that money on new, lighter wheels or performance parts.

here is a bad pic of my wheels i just got powder coated black. i paid 65 each because they have to sand blast them since they already have powder coat on them from the factory. very nice living in wi since i have to have two pairs of wheels

65 each almost buys a whole new set of wheels! $28 total for all four on mine. Well $40 if you add the twelve pack of heineken lol. Powder coat does look nice though. I think we all expect some pics once you get them back on!
me and my friend use to paint peoples wheels all the time flat black BBQ spray paint.. we skipped alot and just cleaned, sanded, and painted.. done in 1 hour. this was a few months ago and there all still looking good. i might take your approach on my evo wheels though.
I did mine almost 6 months ago and the edge of the rim by the tire is starting to come off. I think it may be because i didnt sand well enough or it was too thinly covered in paint
