when the dealer reset mine, it said next service in 10000 miles.... so I dunno if that's normal or not.

Actually that makes sense, I had my oil changed at 5K and next inspection would be for the 15K service. Goofy.

I belive it's this while in park and the car in assc mode on the ignition press and hold the info button go to the service reminder. Hold the button for 5-8 secounds until it blinks dashed lines. Then press it again. Should reset. I belive I might be wrongbut I think that's how I did mine.

Don't have the manual infront of me, but I assume it tells you in there.

I did it after my oil change and it only adds 5000 to the mileage. I had drive around for week with the maintenance reminder light on, and when I reset it subtracted that additional mileage from the 5000, making my next oil change due at 4750 miles. I tried resetting again and now it reads 9750 miles. Its a crappy system. The manual says the dealer can reset the interval to anything you want.

I usually change my oil every 3000-4500 miles regardless of if it's Synthetic or not.

Lightbulb Service Reminder - Everything you ever needed to know !!!

Guys/Gals,
This is posted over on MitsubishiForum.com where I am a member.
It is for the Outlander, (which I own), but I think it would also work
on the Lancer as well.
I deactivated mine completely.
Hope this helps !!!
Russ

Some useful info fromthe service manual - here is how to reset your Service Reminder, Change the Maintenance Schedule (factory default is 6 months/7,500 miles but those of us requiring the "Severe Maintenance" schedule can change it as outlined below), or inactivate it altogether:

HOW TO CANCEL THE SERVICE REMINDER WARNING

1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
2. By operating the meter information switch, the warning period is displayed on the multi information display.
3. Press the meter information switch once for 1.2 seconds or longer.
4. The service reminder indicator flashes.
5. While the service reminder indicator flashes, press the meter information switch once for less than 1.2 seconds.
6. The service reminder indicator is turned ON, and "CLEAR" is displayed on the multi-information display for 3 seconds.
7. After "CLEAR" is displayed for 3 seconds, the warning period to the next time is displayed.

HOW TO SET THE SCHEDULE
1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
2. By operating the meter information switch, the warning period is displayed on the multi information display.
3. Press the meter information switch once for 1.2 seconds or longer.
4. The service reminder indicator flashes.
5. While the service reminder indicator flashes, press the meter information switch 3 times consecutively for 1.2 seconds or longer.
6. The service reminder indicator is turned ON, and the current schedule is displayed on the multi information display.
7. While the current schedule is displayed, press the meter information switch 3 times consecutively for less than 1.2 seconds.
8. The multi information display is shifted to the schedule selection mode.
9. When the meter information switch is pressed for less than 1.2 seconds, the schedule is shifted, and when the switch is pressed for 1.2 seconds or longer, the displayed schedule is set.
10. The schedule set in Step 9 is displayed for 3 seconds, and the warning period to the next time is displayed.
