ECU removal
ECU removal
I have a spare ECU that I'd like to backup the factory settings to via Tactrix cable and OpenPort, but I can't figure out how to detach the original ECU.
Any ideas?

detach that bracket at the top and there a few screws down between the airbox and ecu and also between the ecu and fuse box. then you have to pull back a clamp that connects it to the wiring harness and use a little elbow grease

The plan is to backup the original ECU's config via EcuFlash. Disconnect original ECU, plug in the spare, then restore the saved configuration.
I'm hoping this will replicate all setting including the immobilizer, so the spare ECU will be a true hot spare.

Not going to work that way, AFAIK. When we replace a computer here, we have to mate it through the mitsu MUT-III scan tool and you need to write the vin-coding and key-coding to the ECU which allows it to interact with the ETACS, Immobilizer, and KOS system computers.
If youre doing it for warranty purposes, basically saving your OEM ECU and tuning on the second unit, you could find a dealer willing to do that for you. Then you might be ok, but you'd have a record of that work being performed at a dealership and you'd be pretty screwed anyway unless the dealer was ok with going along and being shady with you keeping it off the record.
