The Start of Something.....Grand
So this is my first Mitsu, sold my '08 Subaru OBS for this super sexy '10 RASB
Wanted to show you guys my wheel project I just completed this weekend. I call it Powder Coat on a Budget, haha
But seriously everyone asks me where I got them powder coated, and they cant believe I did this myself; so let me know what you think

Here is cleaned and prepped:

Layer 1, Textured Metallic (my secret ingredient, haha!) This creates a nice base upon whihc you can do any color you like. It is a dark grey naturally, and some might like it just as is:

Here is Layer 2, Ultra Flat Black. This is the color that I wanted (I've done this to my Subie, but a different top color, same Textured Metallic). Really like the way this matches all the matte black trim pieces that all over the car (i.e. hood vents, fog light housing, outter B-pillars, rear bumper "diffusor" thingie, etc):

And the finished product (decided to do the center caps in Metallic Blue, thinking about painting the
in Black
):

SO I guess this can be my jumping off point for a thread on my new project
Now all she needs is a name.....
Thanks Guys,
-Steve-

Thank you! I love how this car sounds like a mini fighter jet when I'm "flying" around town, I drive around with the radio off so I can listen to the engine, tranny, and turbo all singing in unision
Plus, no one has these in my part of the state, never seen one ever; had to drive 120 to go buy one, but I'm cool with that. I LOVE the looks people give when they see this car. Especially all the American Muscle guys; when I pull up to the light their jaws drop at a Japanese car, that is quick as sh*t and has a nice rumble form the exhaust as is!! Plus my Black and Blue Beaut just looks like a sexy beatdown waiting to happen (kinda like a sexy emo chick or something, haha!).

from personal experience:
it would have a much nicer finish if u used DupliColor Gunmetal (2 coats) + 5 Coats of clear ... the wheels will look very OEM..
Your choice to go matt finish.. something from my past tell me that matt wheels = brake dust magnet

Ok first off, take your bs back handed comments, and shove it!
You dont like it, dont do it to your car. You because you start a sentence with "no offense" (or something equally obsurd)doesnt give you carte blanche to say what ever you want.
Second, AS I STATED, I wanted to make them look like the black trim pieces all over the car (look at the last pic, that one is how it looks irl, and as you can see it is a near exact match to both the foglight housing and the side mirror trim). I posted all the other crappy quality pics to show the process of how it was done. Yes there are 3 layers of clear coat, so when you take a pic the light reflects off various surface angles making the paint seem to be have different shades. In reality its an near exact match, and looks incredible. Its been 3 days and I've had 9 random people come up and compliment me on them, asking what color powder coat I chose.
So by trying to insult me, calling it OEM, it is actually a compliment, since that was EXACTLY my goal.
If have some deep burning desire to insult others based on your your own feelings of inadequacy, invert it and give yourself a third ulcer. Crap like this makes me want to jump on the bandwagon requiring that people verify a minimum age to be here.
To eveyone else, thanks for checking it out and being respectful enough to recognize many hours of hard work that culminated in something....grand (haha)
Thanks,
Steve

Oh and I'm choosing NOT to be a lemming (i.e. plasidip every last chrome trim piece) I'm keeping the nose ring, window trim, and lugnuts chrome, as it tastefully set-offs of the black and blue of the rest of the car. Being nearly 30, I'm not obsessed with the whole "boy racer image", but rather enjoy a balance of style and aggressive looks. Trust me when I say I have put many hours of though into how I want this car to look. I could very well black everything (chrome trim, tail & head lights, emblems, etc) but to me that looks like a by racer toy.
If you have any positive comments, pics, etc, I would enjoy hearing about them.

looks good! Just my two cents into this project though. I plasti-dipped my stock rims and after that I put clear coat on top. only because over time, brake dust gets stuck in between the texturized surface of plasti dip so the clear coat provided a nice top surface so brake dust wouldn't get stuck on the rim but would wash off easily. i dont know if thats the case with yours but looking at the pictures, the surface doesn't look smooth, so im guessing brake dust would get stuck on the rims.
it happened with my friend, his rims turned a dark gold/amber color because of the brake dust. lol

umm well, i must say you did a fine job with it all and as long as your happy with it, its all that matters anyways its your car. I would just say to chill out a bit its constructive criticism and opinion no need to get upset, we all like different things. Gl with the build as always with anyones projects.
