Challange: Rear diffuser ideas?
Looking to start planning my next project.
The interest in this item seems to be high.
I have been looking for some inspiration, and ideas.
It is just very hard to picture it on our car.
So I'm calling on the community to help.
I am looking for Photoshop and Sketch up pics.
A few rules and requirements:
1. Serious ideas only
2. Must be designed with the community in mind
3. Must use pic provided
4. You must stay below the yellow line. Minimum white line
5. Needs attachment points
6. Keep exhaust tip quantity and size in mind
7. Functionality
8. Safety
And lastly it has to be feasible for me to prototype.
Here is a link to my build thread and my project threads. Just in case

Brilliant!! So glad that you are looking into it. Are you looking at a replacement part so the rear looks like an x, or something like the aftermarket diffusers eg varies / jun?
or the replacement bumper like this - only problem is tat it wouldn't be compatible with the sportback

Unfortunately, the sedans and sportbacks are identical, except from the C-pillar back. They can't share anything back there that is body paneling (diffs, exhaust, etc are the same.)

Anyone have a picture of the SBs *** end they can share, preferably one streight on.
I was thinking a replacement, but in our case it would just bolt over our existing one. I have looked into making a high quality part, but not to many people interested in paying for the quality.

If the SB has the same exhaust, then it would have the same cut outs. I may be able to have the RA one fit with a little modification.

The unpainted black plastic section on the Sportback's rear bumper is removable:
The same section on the sedan is not...

VERY basic paint rendering of my thoughts. The diffuser panes that stick out of the bottom would actually be slightly pointed toward the bottom, when viewed from the rear: \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ and would be flat faced on the back and angle upward as they go further foward, as well, similar to an upside-down vortex generator design.
Mounting points could include a few hidden on the underside, underneath the bumper, and holes could be made so as to use longer license plate screws when putting the plate on to secure the diffuser cleanly up-top as well.

I think it can be done i would need a few more pics. I could use some picks from high and low straight on, one from 5 o'clock, and one from 3 o'clock (side).

It is up to you, if you like a certain design, post it up.
I just don't want to spend a lot of time fabricating something up that no one likes.

it might be... i also noticed that the sedan has that "belt line" on the bumper where the sportbacks do not. I'll take some pics this weekend for ya if it helps. Though, honestly, i've been planning to make my own diffuser; just because...
