thanks for the comments everyone... looks like I ran into my first problem.... So I buttoned everything up today and go to fire it up...

car will not fire... just simply cranks... I get the P0335 Code which is a crankshaft sensor malfunction., so I replace the sensor with an extra one that I have... NO go.. check timing,, everything is great.., check the orientation of the pane on the exhaust cam shaft trigger to make sure that it was not a 180 degrees out of phase... it was good.. still won't fire.

so I am stumped and at a stand still...

I will keep everyone posted..

later..

Nice job, I'm sure you'll figure out the recent issue.

After reading all of this, I'm almost ashamed that I own a set of tools. This is a real lesson in engine swapping at home. I'm not sure I can face my new Craftsman triple tool box that I just bought to organize all my crap.

BTW, LaBatt's owes you some advertisement revenue. I think you may have a new angle on advertising, I'm thirsty now

This thread rocks! Wish I had you as a neighbor dude (LOL)

Sick build, hope to see you have her up and running soon! It will be so worth it when she fires up and runs like a beast...

Well folks...

I hate to tell you this, and I feel terrible to tell you the truth.... I figured out the p0335 code issue... the crank sensor was bad.. I replaced it with a spare that I have and the car fired up... HOWEVER THERE IS NO OIL PRESSURE...

I AM ****ING PISSED...

alright back to some old school tricks with the oil pressure issue.

Wow, was wondering how that TOB worked on the QM.

Following your build (Both of them) on Xceed, seem to be more in depth on here

Oh its JDMFTW from Xceed lol

Man that sucks! I read every post starting on page one then I get to that. It's like reading a book and then there's a big heart wrenching part at the end. I have a feeling there will be redemption and resolution before this story ends though. Good luck.

^ I appreciate it , I tried like hell last night to feed oil through the oil filter housing, I pushed 2 quarts of oil through the engine , to the point that I could see oil coming out through the lifters, but still no oil pressure.. Looks like I have to pull the front case out and see what the hell is up with the oil pump and why it is not drawing oil into the motor...

sorry everyone for the dissapointment , I am trying my best.

By the time I had got home from work, jeremy had already taken apart the timing belt and cover. So he was just waiting for me to prime the motor...

Grab the drill with the 14mm deep well and let it rip... Hmmm no oil pressure ( I have a mechanical guage hooked up, so that I don't need to depend on the electronic one that is in the car. Well **** keep going at it, I told myself: but this was to no avail.

I then realized that I should crack the oil filter open a little, this way any air that is in the system, can have a point of escape. The minute I did this... boom 20 psi .. 30 psi oh **** 50 psi.. keep going 80 psi and it was just too much for the drill, that the socket fell off.

With a sigh of relief, I did it one more time for good measure..had jeremy look in the head, only to notice, oil gushing out of the lifters..

We then hustled to get the timing belt , front cover , and accessories belt hooked up .. Then we removed the spark plugs, so that the motor could spin easily without compression, this is good practise, so that you don't beat up your rod bearings too much , if you don't have that much oil pressure.

After We turned the motor over a few times with the starter, the engine oil light on the dash went off. I was registering about 15 psi on the mechanical guage. We figured lets go ahead and start her..

Moments pass by, my adrenaline starts to rush, and jeremy turns the key...... listening to those intense seconds of the starter engaging , which felt like an eternity.. I urged the car to fire ( in my mind)

SHE IS ALIVE AND SOUNDING VERY VERY HEALTHY At this point I am frantically looking for any leaks under the hood, and we are registering close to 90 psi of oil pressure on the mechanical gauge ( take a big gulp of my beer) .......We held the rpm at 2500 rpm for approximately 3 minutes.. The cams, kelford 272s are entirely to large for the idle afrs and consequently the car was struggling to idle.

Now the moment that everyone has been waiting for (what does the OIL look like)

I too was very nervous about this.. I dump the oil that has been in this motor for no more than 6 minutes of run time and it looks like normal break in oil. clean( a little material which is normal), what is really is important is the fact that there were no chunks of bearing material. the second oil change will be the tell tale of everything.

Overall I am feeling better about the car, there are a few problems that we need to address,
a small leak on the oil return line
a small leak by the rear main seal area ( hopefully we won't need to pull the tranny)
a few check engine lights in regards to the O2 circuit, injector #2 circuit.

Today I shall attempt to drive her around the block and see how she feels.

Hope you have enjoyed this recent entry , even though it is not filled with a slew of pictures.

later.

Glad to hear it's coming along and the major issues seem to be taken care of. Looking forward to the results.

Glad to see you got it figured out, bet that's a relief. I've been watching the progress, great build man. Thing should be a blast when all the kinks are worked out.

Nice work man. I have found it way easier to lift the engine in from the bottom. Why did you have to do a swap....what happened to the last engine?
