Differences in cost....
Differences in cost....
Hello,
Well that is two in two days, AEM EMS's that is, that I am tuning and fixing that have been bought somewhere else. There are a lot of these being sold that's apparent by the amount of time I spend tuning and talking on the phone. What isn't apparent to YOU GUYS is the difference in cost when you buy one.
We are NOT the cheapest place to buy an AEM EMS. I am NOT trying to be the cheapest. I am trying to make sure there isn't a bunch of hidden costs, other upgrades and hidden tuning costs for the guy that buys it though.
I want to list part numbers and everything else here so you guys know what to get, I actually had them typed and then deleted it. I don't need to make it that easy for you to go somewhere else and get the right parts.
This is what you do need to look for and what we include in our COMPLETE kit for the car:
EMS box with integrated wide band (not integrated boxes are cheaper)
Wide band 02 sensor
5 bar MAP sensor
CNC billet aluminum MAP sensor adapter (we are the only ones with this)
Wiring harness for the map sensor (pigtail)
Air temp sensor
SS air temp sensor bung (we are the only ones with this)
Air temp sensor harness (pigtail)
Free tuning, two maps, one for race gas and one for pump gas.
*cold start, driveability AND fuel mileage are all tuned.
The pigtails you have to have to wire this thing in. Most other companies are selling the kits with a standard EMS box, no wideband or sensor, no air temp sensor, they leave you having to hack the map sensor in with a "T" and some hose, if you do get an air temp sensor it is just a sensor and no bung for installing it. It's easy to see why someone would be fooled into getting a cheaper unit from somewhere else.
Now add into this the tuning on top of the box and the great deal you thought you got really ends up SUCKING!
One thing to remember, if you buy any fuel management from someone and they tune it on the dyno to get that big number that is probably all you are going to have, a big number. You still have to start it, drive it and get some type of respectable fuel mileage out of it. These are all things that are included in the purchase of the unit from us.
I am posting this because I am hoping to save some of you guys the PITA it can be. I am also posting it hoping for more sale, lets be honest.
Bottom line is both these guys in the last two days spent around $800 extra for tuning, sensor adapters, wiring and the wideband capabilities that you should have if you are going to mess with a standalone.
Good luck,
David Buschur

Yeah the tuning aspect is key. Many shops can tune the fuel and ignition timing maps, but making the car start, idle smoothly and run well in all conditions is where all the magic is. This is why buying the EMS from a shop that will support you after the sale is most important. This is also why you read a lot of misinformation about drivability problems with the EMS on the forums due to 99% of the "tuners" being idiots...
So paying "more" to buy it from a reputable shop will save you a lot of money and trouble in the long run...
The only thing I disagree with David on is the integrated wideband. This essentially means you can never have an external wideband gauge, although it is the cheapest method and works great when you use a laptop attached to the EMS to view the AFR. I consider a wideband mandatory, but I prefer to see people run an external wideband that then feeds the EMS. This way you have a gauge to look at and the EMS still gets a wideband signal. The www.zeitronix.com ZT-2 kicks *** for this purpose.

Ummmm, he also sells the AEM without the built in Uego as well.
ANYONE considering buying the AEM, LISTEN to Buschur said. YOU NEED ALL of those things(maybe a 3.5 bar, maybe an external UEGO) for you to avoid any complications later in the game. BELIEVE me I know...lol just my .02$

One thing that really stands out about Buschur is the MAP sensor plate adapter. This thing is pimp so you don't do any drilling in your stock intake manifold. I fits in the position of your stock map sensor. Well worth the money and one of the best parts I have been able to find! Thanks again David for taking the time to do it right!
Dave, any chance of selling some of these extra parts on the side? Not trying to cut corners, but I have a business and get AEM at cost. This thread just hit like lead pipe to the face of my near-future plans.
