What do you guys do during smogging? Pull the whole system out? How long does this take? Any experiences?

It's very simple and quick to pull out the aem and swap back into the stock computer. Probably would have to drive it real hard before the smogging to get all the crap out.

I'm curious too about that and I can't believe over 200+ people have looked at this thread, but not said anything?

Sometimes you can find people who will "look the other way". I simply got my stock ecu reflashed for the mods I have (only difference is the reflash uses stock injectors). When it comes time for inspection I switch ecu's/injectors, plug in the MAF, and stock O2 sensor, and that's basically it. Small price to pay for total tunability.

This is what I've been told to do by my tuner/mechanic...just change ECU's.

This is a good question. Let's say you're tuned for basically an exhaust and cams. Can you throw on the stock exhaust and expect to pass? If you swap back the stock cams (yes, an expensive proposition) and exhaust, how much might it F**k up a tuned car? Will the car run way leaner or way richer? I'm talking about a tuned (flashed) stock ECU, not about changing out an EMS...

with all the reflash guys, if your car does not have a check engine light turned on. and your car is in connecticut getting tested. IT WILL PASS, unless the ecu rediness tests aren't complete, in which case the test "type" changes to a test in which a sample of your exhaust is obtained and you have a higher chance of failing. its not that bad and basically if the factory ecu is still in the car, i wouldnt worry much about it.

Steve, with a stock cat (I don't plan to swap the whole system) and your cam gears adjusted to minimize overlap, you'll probably pass. That's what I plan to do. It's a little more iffy with 272s than with 264s (or a mix), but you'll probably still be okay.

Rich, I definitely need to hook up some readers to my car to see exactly what adjusting my gears does to my tune .

Let me know if you are ever interested in doing OBD-II scans with my Pocketlogger. It's pretty easy to do and you're right up the street

exhaust isnt an issue anymore unless you have a CEL from it. people are worried about the new machine reading the ECU. best bet is to throw the ecu in for inspection purposes. if your not tuned for ur mods on stock ecu then just turn the boost down to 10 psi and beat on it, it will be fine. or reflash the ecu for the mods u have or close to it and deal with it for a day or 2
