Car runs better than stock ECU now
Well almost all of the problems have been solved almost instantly. I decided I needed some help so Sean Ivey whipped up a map for my car and sent it over Email. I just told him what the cars modifications were and presto. This man is a genius when it comes to the AEM EMS. I honestly could not believe how much better the car drove pretty much instantly. He also made it a boost comp map so to make any adjustments to the AFR will be very very simple. I could not believe how great his startup map for my car worked compared to what i was trying to use. The car at this point could honestly be able to be beat on... it is SLIGHTLY lean getting up in the RPMs for my taste but that is an easy fix. Especially considering he didnt even have a log to start with, he just knew the cars modifications and gave it a shot. The car is almost dialed in perfectly. Its unbelievable. The timing he also made sure wasnt too aggressive for the starting map but it is a great point to start at.
Sean Ivey is definately one of the best tuners for the EMS... if you ever need someone to tune your car he gets my vote. If he can do this in a few minutes without even sitting in the car I couldnt imagine what he could do with my car strapped to a dyno.

Oh yeah, and some of the other great things are how much better the car actually drives. Now when the blow off valve opens or flutters, the car just stays running exactly the same as if nothing happened. The stock ECU would kinda tweak out a little bit. The car also now idles better than it did stock, more less after I put in the intake manifold, gt35r, cams, etc, etc. Even the part throttle, slight acceleration and decel, the car runs better than it did on the stock ECU... the driveability got much BETTER with this ECU compared to the stock so for all the people that think the stock ECU is the best for driveability.... no... at least not when you start piling up the mod list like my pos. The stock ECU could barely drive the car, now it drives like its a stock honda... but with 5 times the power
It is around 0 degrees here so I cant hit a track anytime soon. I will be tuning the EMS a little more and then start spraying the methanol at it and once I can get it so I like it, Ill hit a dyno... should be around a month or two I would think.
So you are saying you gave him your Evo setup, he sent you a map for the AEM EMS and Yahoo car is running great without road test and dyno? Kinda of flash on the ECU?
That is very interesting, especially for me who live lost in the ocean pacific without any tuner and dyno around
Thanks for posting

So the boost comp mapping is pretty smooth for drivability? Is it a full boost comp map or a hybrid? Sean is who i am planning on taking my car to in the future. But i want to have all the parts i need installed and whatnot. Wonder if i could get him to make me up a mapping to get things rolling till then. This is the worst time of year for me to find time and motivation to work on my car. Winter suks.
It is full boost comp. Yes Driveability is wonderful. I turned the 02 feedback on for all the vacuum driving now just for fuel economy but it runs fine with or without it and you cant really notice the difference if you dont look at the 02s.
Yeah. I told him what the setup was, he sent me a map and exactly.. wahoo
No road test, no dyno, nothing... it runs great. The cold start still isnt perfect but plenty good for me, and especially considering he just made me one and its not tweaked at all.
Yes he would probably be able to tune your car from afar for you. You would just need to send him logs and whatnot but he should be able to do it. Im telling you, this guy is nuts on how good he is. And yes, winter does suck.

I am buying an AEM EMS in the next couple of days. It would be nice to get a base map to make it run ok for a little while before I have it dyno tuned. How much does Sean charge for a base map through e-mail? Sounds like the route i'd like to take.
Trina - are you trying to start the car immediately or are you putting the key in the on position first and letting the fuel pump prime then try and start it?
There are a few tricks you can do to get it to start for ya, I saw you already had the tooth time min in the cam/crank sensor set to 500 instead of 50 in the other map and i'm sure Sean put it in the new one as well. You can also use the Sync early function or the Crank Sync Skip function. One other one I haven't tried much on the Evo is the initial crank pulse graph in the advanced start functions, I have had great success using this with Honda's and a Bimmer for quick cold start.

Im selling the MAFT Pro... I used it for a day and then decided I had too many boxes controlling my car so I switched to just one
I let the pump prime first, I also changed the prime to 4 seconds to help it out. The quick start honestly is now mostly just because of the extreme weather it has been in. It was in the 20s today and it started much better.

Its good to hear things are up and going.
Yeah I will tweak it now that the car runs well and I finally got a laptop that can run the program decently. I did notice that the cold start is MUCH better when it is 25-35 degrees ambient temp. Its pretty much like a stock ECU (Except for the few extra cranks while it is synching). Ill keep playing with it.
