Bought used AEM EMS......

It should be here tomorrow. Hopefully the guy didnt rip me off, but thats all part of the buyer beware.....

My question is.....what will be the best way to see if it works as soon as I get it?

Remove the stock ECU and plug in the AEM......then what? Just hook up a laptop (I only have a desktop which I can move into my garage) and see if it interfaces?

Any help will be appreciated. I was going for the Ecutek flash but just had to take a chance on this deal for the price.

I think it depends if you want to go map based or not otherwise you will have to wire in some more sensors

Considering what's in your signature, the AEM supplied base map for MAF would probably get your car to kick over and run on as long as it isn't to cold... The base map says its for 3" exhaust and an otherwise stock evo. It didn't run for me but it did kick over and sputter a bit. I have cams etc.. so thats probably why it wouldn't stay running. I wouldn't attempt to drive on it however, just a means to see if you will upload a map and actually crank and try and fire up...

yeah....I dont want to run the car on it. I just want to see if it interfaces with the computer. How do I do that? I read (in fact printed) all the AEM manuals, but the intial connection seems vague. Do I just plug it in and hook up my computer? Do I need to turn the ignition key to a certain position?

To connect it to the laptop you need to download the AEM software at aempower.com then plug it into your laptop serial port. If you don't have a serial port you will need a serial to usb switch over cable. Once you do this you will need to tell the AEM software what port you are plugged into on your laptop (serial or usb) then you should be able to use the AEM Pro application to connect to the ECU. Once it connects it will bring up the map that is loaded in to the ECU currently.

NOTE: While doing this, the ECU must be plugged into the car and the car ignition must be in the ON position.

Thanks....thats the info I was looking for. I already have the software downloaded. But I am going to use my desktop for the intial check. I have a friend with a laptop coming over sunday......dont want to wait, I need to make sure it turns on and isnt burnt out or something.
