Big problem w/ AEM & UEGO....Help Please

About 2 weeks ago I was backing into my garage and the UEGO gauge died all of a sudden. I shut the car off and started it back up and the gauge was working fine and it didn't happen again. Fast forward to last night. Heres what happened...

I was driving yesterday when all of a sudden the UEGO gauge died on me. It just shut off out of nowhere. The car still ran fine though. No knocking, sputtering, pinging, etc. I pulled over about 1/4 mi after it died.

I shut off the car, then turned it back on and it was still dead so I hooked up the laptop. I started the car and the UEGO was still off, and the AFR reading on the laptop was 25.26! The car was idling fine and there were no signs of anything being wrong. So I shut it back off for a min and reloaded the cal file. Started the car, and still the UEGO was dead and the AFR was still reading 25.26 with no fluctuation. Shut the car off, took the gauge out of the steering wheel column, pulled the radio, and quickly checked the power and ground wires. Nothing wrong with them.

So now i'm sitting there stumped as to why the UEGO was not getting power. When the car is idling, the laptop is reading 25.26 afr, but when the engine is turned off, its reading 19.?? with no fluctuation. WTF? The UEGO is dead, but the EMS is giving a different reading when the engine is on and off. How could the EMS be sending a different AFR reading to the laptop if its not getting a signal from the UEGO in the first place?

I was about to pull the whole EMS and check every wire but decided to start the car one more time. It fired up and the UEGO came back on. The laptop was receiving a signal from the EMS which was receiving a signal from the UEGO and the AFR reading on both the gauge and laptop were back to normal.

I made it home without any problems. I called AEM tech support and the guy I spoke to said he never heard of anything like that before. All he could tell me was to "check the wires and keep an eye on it." I checked the sensor in the downpipe and the wires that connect it to the UEGO. All fine. I pulled the radio and gauge again and went over all the wires and connections. They're also fine. I drove my friend home and there were no problems. I parked the car and haven't driven it yet today.

Anyone ever have a problem similar to this? I'm worried this will happen during a 1/4 mi run. I'm thinking of sending the UEGO and EMS back to AEM. Think they'll replace it under warranty? I've had the UEGO for about 5 months but i've only had the EMS for 5 or 6 weeks.

never heard of this issue before. i don't have an EMS but i do go thru the forums often looking at issues people are having.

Just to be on the safe side, check with your tuner or if u don't have one call TT, AMS or BR to get some advise. good luck

i have a zeitronix connected to my AEM. it stopped working one day and the AEM wouldn't/couldn't get a reading from it... but still ran fine. very weird. disconnected and then reconnected it and haven't had a problem since. *shrug* i am thinking something weird is going on with my AEM because it trashed a CAL file too and i started getting detonation. i caught it before too much damage was done but i did have to buy new pistons and get my head shaved. *sigh*
