Will this be safe?

I have an 05 with the stock turbo and aem using speed density. I was planning on changing the turbo kit and getting it retuned. I live in MA and was going to visit Sean Ivey to tune it(Heard he's great). Question is, since its based on speed density would it still be safe to drive with the new kit(AMS 50 trim)? I wouldn't be pulling it hard down there, just cruising, hitting low boost only on onramps or to pass and what not. I dont see it being a problem but wanted to check with those that know more about this.

You will be fine as long as it is set-up correctly but it tells you how to do that in the AEM start up instructions. IE Sensors--Manifold Absolute Pressure--Wizard--AEM or what ever map sensor you are using. Then setup the rest as normal and you should be good to go. If you really want i can send you a start up map that should get you there. Hope that helps.

I appreciate the offer. Its already been tuned though. The only thing I'd have different would be the turbo kit. Right now it runs fine, I just want to make sure that changing the turbo kit isn't going to screw the drivability up tune wise. If its a load based map it should be fine right? I wouldn't boost it hard on the way down, just cruise there and get tuned.

Just turn the boost down to as low as the wastegate allows. Watch your afr's on the drive. If your that worried about it, dont boost it. Problem solved.

The dynamics of the turbo will be slightly different, so you car will hit different boosts at different rpms than your stock turbo is hitting, but as long as your fuel map looks smooth and there are no rediculous jumps, you should be fine. A 50 trim isn't even that extreme. You would probably be more concerned going from a large to a small turbo, since you hit higher boosts at lower rpms and could run lean if you map isn't set up properly.

Like was mentioned above, if you have a wideband, watch it and ensure you don't run lean and you will be fine.
