Switching Maps?

Kind of a newb question, but w/the AEM can you easily switch between different maps on the go with the simplicity of a switch or would i need to get a laptop & cable to do so?

i believe you are gonna need a laptop to access the saved map you desire to upload to the ecu. the ems only holds 1 map internally at a time i believe

That's what i thought. And also if i wanted to switch to speed density the the AEM, do i only need a 3.5 bar map sensor & AIT sensor?

you can technically have two maps. I run it in my car, one pump map and one meth map, switch maps with a switch! You use the nitrous maps as modifiers to the primary map, and thats your second map!

Right, you would just need to define the turn-on parameters to match whatever switch input you use, and define it by the style of switch that you're using, such as normally closed or normally open.

For one custom system that I created for another car, I was able to use an integra box on a non-integra application, and use the VTEC controls to adjust fuel and timing on a global scale. This would give an additional level of functionality, but that was available only because I did it as a custom setup.

Great! this is just what i was hoping for with the AEM, because after dropping a rather large wad on the unit & tuning, I don't think i'd have enough cash left over to get a laptop & cable

Thanks for the info guys. Also, with the AEM w/boost solenoid can I use this to control my boost settings instead of using a manual or electronic boost controller? Can I program pre-set boost levels? How well does this work compared to the other controllers?

Thats what I have done for numerous cars, and I typically have 2 led's wired in so that I can tell which map the car is running. This is great unless you need the nitrous map.... lol.

Actually switching programs with your laptop is the best and safest way to change maps. There are all kinds of other ways of doing it with a toggle switch, all of them have alteast a few down sides though. Some of them that I have seen come in to our shop from other "tuners" are down right dangerous.

I'd recommend just using the laptop.
