Tuning for dummys
I was wondering if anyone here has a guide to tuning the ems. I am going to have my 1G tuned at buschur but I don't want to have to go there ever time I make some small change. I think a tuning guide for the ems would be great. It could cover things like what the terms mean like vss, also it could cover how to tune what you are looking for and how different parameters relate to each other. I mean I don't know much about tuning and I woould really like to know. How do you know haw far to advance the timing, where to set fuel trims at, how to set up ignition maps, etc. If anyone has a referance guide like this please let me know. Thanks.

As you may have learned after reading the instruction manual (250 pages worth) there are a number of parameters that are not even mentioned in the manual. Don't think you're going to become a master tuner just reading this manual...
once you have your map done at buschur's tuning for small changes is easy , you already have a good basemap to work with. making small changes and logging is all you need to do
www.efi101.com is a good place to start
When I tune the car I will go over with you how to log the car and make changes to the fuel map, which is generally all that you will need to change.
Unless you have what I call a "college" mind, just reading about it isn't going to do you much good. I honestly don't think you can "learn to tune" by reading any book. You have to do it and the more cars you tune, the better you will get.

reading the AEM manual with teach you how to use AEM. Tuning is a different story. I think you can learn a lot about tuning from reading the right materials, but as Dave mentioned in order to gain an expertise with it, you really have to experience it.
