Ems Drivability Question!!!
turbodan, thanks and thanks for not spreading the map around. That's one thing I do ask of people when I tune them. I also ask them if they haved someone else tune them to have the tuner use the car owners laptop. That way the tune that was in the car remains the customers property and not the next tuners.
GTVEVO, I won't argue with you. 90% of the guys that we tune and build are from out of state. You re-tuned a car or two that I did, good for you, hope the customers were happy. I re-tune multiple cars on a weekly basis from other shops. Guys you re-tune will end up going to someone else too. It happens. It use to bother me but now I don't let it. First of all, if a guy comes here from out of state (like I said 90% do) that means they had to drive atleast 2.5 hours to get here. Some get shipped here from all over the country, Texas, California, Florida, Main etc. I cannot get mad, offended or even defensive over a guy who needs to get a tune touched up by someone else. As I said, nobody is perfect, I certainly am not.
I can tell you it's easy for someone to sit back and talk about their re-tunes on the internet and steal well done maps in the process. That I can gaurantee. You "fixing" cars I've done got you kick *** base maps if nothing else with no ground work on your end to figure out and fix the multiple problems AEM has. No thanks needed though, you are welcome.

David, I completely understand where you are coming from with your statements and I agree that it would be very hard with so many different variables. Even the fact that it is easier to point out others mistakes and make a diagnosis from one problem compared to several happening all at once. The AEM is a more in-depth EMS compared to others which makes it more difficult to troubleshoot but when learned it’s a very powerful EMS.
I do not agree with your kick *** free base map comments (I understand why you would think it but I am not like most people because I can think for myself) anyway 9 out of 10 maps that I see are just crap in my opinion and look like everyone copied off of each other. As for my own tune I learned the system myself over a long period of time and tuned my car with my different setups completely by myself so a thanks is not really needed. No pun intended just my opinion.
IN intrests of full disclosure, who did you retune, and what sort of changes did you make? Have you noticed spontaneous changes in the warm up enrichment table in your EMS? mine has been acting fubky lately.... either new maps are not being saved, or it seems as if the EMS randomly reverts back to older maps... which should be impossible...
I haven't noticed any changes with my fuel enrichment unless other changes are made. You have to keep in mind that the main fuel map interacts with any of the fuel trim tables including the warm-up enrichment so this could be your problem if you are making changes in your main fuel map.
I haven't ever had the EMS revert back to older maps, I have had a few tell me that theirs did but when I check them out personally it was just confusion.
I have seen a few of the boxes needing to go back for service but these boxes had problems that occurred every time something was tested or the car wouldn't run at all.

My Evo was sitting undriven for over 3 months (I was waiting for my rebuilt t-case) which was recently installed this past Monday.
Basically, the last time I drove it the temperatures were right around 75 degrees and when I drove it home on Monday the temps were in the mid 20's.
The car started right away after install, and I drove it home with no problems.
The car runs almost the same as when I drove it in the summer; the only difference is that the car takes longer to warm up to operating temperature.
Besides the sligthly longer time it takes the car to startup, drvieability is very good.
As an aside:
I've driven a couple of AEM equipped Evo's (namely my uncle's) and his car did not run nearly as well as mine (until I told him to go to Sean Ivey who recently re-tuned his car after his engine threw a rod based partly on a very lean AEM tune).
A good tuner is the key.
Just look at my sig below to see who tuned my car

Yes,I can recall having an AEM for sale a while back (2 years ago) with a Buschur tune in it and I had more P.M's asking for me to download the Map and send it to certain members to "verify" if in fact it was a "Buschur" tune.I was not born yesterday so I just kindly replied for them to buy the AEM and they could find out for themselves but guess what? None of the people who P.M'ed me about the MAP wanted to spend the $$$ for the AEM as they only wanted one thing from it,a Free Map to use for their own personal gain. When I ended up selling the AEM I did the right thing and spoke with the buyer about what he wanted from the AEM and ok'ed that I would download a "base map" and load it to the Sold AEM and put the map that was removed from the AEM in the Recycle bin.The person was buying the AEM for the AEM and not the MAP as they were going to have a "local" shop install and Tune it. That being said I felt the map in the AEM was not needed by "another shop" as each tuner does their own thing and if they wanted their maps to be "public domain" they would post them all over the internet.
I had no use for the map then or now and it never was given or used by anyone.
Each tuner has his own way of tuning and their own things that they alone do and that must be respected.Like posted in "quotes" above I am quite sure that many people take other tuners maps for their own gains.

hey guys,
alright i have not been all that happy with my EMS. I do not know if its because of the bad tune that i have or what... Drivability is not that great on my car, like for example cruising at low rpms, the idle of my car is horrible and the common issue COLD START!! So my question is with a good tune from a good tuner is it suppost to drive like a stock ecu car??? because if it is, then i would have to look for a different tuner!! please guys help me out with this problem!!!!
-thanks

Mine drives better than stock. Much more responsive and a lot smoother at high speed cruise.
Slowly getting cold start dialed in, but in general It fires up in a single crank, all be it a little long of a crank.
my car starts and runs fine with an aem. I also don't have an iac (AMS VSR with the big tb)and it still idles fine. but i geuss its all about the tuner. IVEYTUNE. And i would never share a tune with anyone thats just bad karma.
i tried connecting my laptop to the ems and wasnt able to connect. it said "Failure to connect with ecu" what could it be?? i had to buy the usb to serial port convert to connect with ecu. i bought the converter at best buy.
please guys help me out!!!
