Before you try to connect you need to have your car completely off.

ok, with the key all the way in the off position. Hit connect ecu and then turn the key to just the accesories it should connect. Did you try that.

In Windows XP following these directions

1)Right Click My Computer
2)Go to Properties
3)Click on Hardware Tab
4)Click on Device Manager
5)Click on the + sign next to Ports
6)Look for your USB Adaptor and remember what COM Port it says.
7)Open AEM Pro 1.0
8)Click Work Offline
9)Click ECU on the Top
10)Click on Communication Port
11)If USB is already selected and its not working click on Serial and in the Drop Down make sure that the right COM port is selected.
12)Click on the Connect Button in AEMPRO or hit Shift F7

Sounds like you are having problems with your USB to Seral device. The USB to Serial adaptors made by IO Gear are the ones typically recommended. In windows XP look under your device manager to make sure that the usb device is working and you have a seral port for it listed. USB to Seral adaperts are known to cause issues. It could also be the driver for the cable.

With the key in off position pull up aem pro. When the box comes up asking to connect hit connect and while its querrying turn your key to the on position. This should connect you. This should work if not their must be some sort of other problem.
