Aem > ecuflash :)

So I came across a great deal on an AEM. Believe me, I spent years since day one with ecuflash, learning its language and swapping roms and what not. A very good community of guys over there in that forum

I still tune ecuflash based evo's and sti's here in FL, but never really messed with AEM evo's. So bare with me if I have any mitsu specific AEM Q's that support cant help me with.

Immediatly after adjusting idle and cruise, I went for a spin. HOLY CRAP so this is where my low end power was hiding It is blatently obvious the MAFS was choking my car or, Maybe i'm just excited but the car feels so much snappier than before! I was running this car at 29psi on 93, stock ecu, and it was impressive, but it felt like it was missing something.

Anyways, she feels rediculous at 17psi I cant wait to turn the wick up in a few days!

So this is my formal introduction of myself in this sub forum

Why not sd-patch the stock ecu?

Anyone interested in an AEM Series 1 down the road, I am looking to move to series 2 in order to learn that platform... Probably a couple months out before I make that move.

I am glad you like your EMS, but if MAFS was slowing you down before, I doubt that you will see the improvement at the low end, where airflow is relatively low.

My guess is that you are running more aggrassive timing comparing to what you had in the past.

Enjoy!

The car I bought had an AEM pre-installed on it, but so far, it has been fairly neat. How can you tell which series you have?

You have a series 1, series 2 is not available for the 8's

I think the stock ECU is either code heavy or intentionally over smoothed for drive-ability which interferes with the input fidelity. Standalones just have a much more pronounced "crispness" to them that I have never seen a lower end stock ECU match.

For the price though, it's hard to beat.

Dont get me wrong, there is times i am on the edge of going back to stock ecu, but in the end, Everything wrapped up into one piece of software makes everything alot more convenient.

AEMs have their place. There is alot you can do with a stock ECU but it requires alot of time spent reading/experimenting where the AEM is fairly straightforward.

The 3 main areas of complaint I have with the AEM are-

Idle control does not properly support stepper type IACs

Knock control sucks

Start sucks (I hear the V2 is better now than the V1 was)

Other than that they are nice to work with, though if you make the effort you can use the live tune patch on the stock ECU. The datalogging is awesome I cannot deny.
