Tuning Mivec (Valve#2) in AEMPro

I've been trying to search for some info on tuning Mivec with the AEM. I have read that the base that AEM provides has pretty decent timing for Mivec, but I really am more interested in understanding the table properly and making decisions on my own...

I'm also thinking that Mivec could help with turbo spool-up. Right now I have a feeling given the set of cams that are in the car (Cosworth M2) with too much intake advance boost will just blow through the head at lower (like 4-5k) RPMs. The turbo on the car is an S362 and it just doesn't seem to spool up as it should honestly. It comes in real soft and then around 6k hits very hard.

I'm truthfully not sure if I need to make changes to the Valve#2Map or if I need to also make changes to VVC#2 Duty Cycle, VVC#2 Error, Options, FB etc...

FWIW, I currently have a map that I think may look a little strange (not the AEM one).

It's 0'd out in the bottom left corner (all vac values til 2300 RPM). Then jumps up to 6.25 around that "box" of 0s, then goes back down to 2.19 til 4100rpms, then starts ramping up - 5.00 from 4500-5500rpms (all + pressure), 8.13 @ 5900rpms, and then 11.9 the rest of the way out to 9500. I can just get a screen shot if that helps haha.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I think that this table can really help out with spoolup and maybe even a little with flow up top.

Thanks!

I normally max out mivec until spool up and taper down. Remember 15 is no adv...

Good luck

Oh, ok... So in the AEM table 15 = 0, <15 would be advanced, >15 would be retarded?

What values would be maxing out the mivec?

Cosworth M2 cams FWIW

2.2* is ~ full advance & 14.7* is ~ fully retarded.

idle ~13.x in the mivec table, this way there is less overlap & the car purr's....

once above ~2k @ -3.xx psi / full boost from 0 rpm - ~ 4k / spool up, run @ 3.xx, then ramp it up to 14.7 by ~6k

also, >2k - max revs from -11.xx psi thru -4.xx psi, i run with the cam advanced @ 3.xx.

smooth accordingly

Thanks for the response.

I'm not sure if it applies in any fashion or not...

VVCFB I - 3%
VVCFB P - 0%
FB Max - 10.16%
FB Min - -10.16%

VVC#2 Invert - Enabled
Speed Falling Edge - Enabled
PWM #9/10 Period - 4000us
Cam#2 Start - .63 teeth
VVC Max - 100%

#2 Duty Cycle Settings:
0 - 90.234375
5 - 90.234375
10 - 89.453125
15 - 86.328125
0'd out after that

#2 Error
-50
-3.12
0
3.12
49.61

Do any of those settings effect the setup?

I'm going to post up what is currently on the car. FWIW I started with someone else's base map (pro tuner).

Aby, is this roughly what you're suggesting? It's an S362... so ballpark, it seems to be making >20psi between 5000-5500 depending on the gear FWIW. That boost level is based upon the existing Mivec Timing (not this new one attached).

Also, does something like 11.x make sense up top to allow a little more time for boost to enter as opposed to the 14.7?

looks good.

as billspec said, keep it advanced until spool up.

i would retard the cam a bit more, especially @ peak revs....

regardless, mess around & find out what works for you.

not sure about the idle settings for your tune.

the other stuff you have listed looks like base aem data = ok / good. i havent dicked w/those settings... only the mivec map.
