AEM EMS question?

hi, how hard is it to tune a car with the aem ems?

well im tired with the stock ecu and the tephra mods and all the xml files, codes and other BS that it comes with, plus you never get any help from the forum..every 2 days you have to change a mut table or add xml to something.

plz tell me the aem ems doesnt have all these confusing things?

id rather have a 2000$ ecu then live with what i have right now, changing things in ecuflash and evoscan everyday!

I'm still on a v1 aem and loving every minute of it. The car drives like its stock when cruising around town and hauls when I get on it. I had to install a 12 tooth crank trigger to fix the extended cranking issue on start-up, but I believe the v2 doesn't have that problem.

In terms of tuning and logging it is a night and day difference compared to the repetitive flashing required with the stock ecu. Everything is quick, easy, and to the point. Navigating the software is a dream and I'm sure you'll enjoy being able to make changes without having to key off! Pick up a used unit for a good price and enjoy. You will wonder why you didn't jump ship years ago.

100% agree.

I also was working on the stock ecu for a while, but grew tired of dealing with all the hacks to get **** to work. I spent 600 bucks on a Series 1, 100 on the trigger disc, and I had the sensors from previous car. I have not looked back since.

There are a few little things in the series 1 that make it a little strange(related to cold/hot starts). Outside of that, I could not be happier. I have a series 2 in my STI, and that works very well also. I would say that if you want flex fuel support buy a series 2, as they will have a new firmware update that will support flex fuel in the up coming months.

AEM is also going to come out with there Infinity ECU which is supposed to be a bad mother ****er, however it will be the top of the line ecu and command a price to match.

I think best bang for the buck is a series 2 unit, becuse of the firmware updates they will have for it. I have see series 2 units sell for like 1k on this forum.

Download the software, it is free and has startup maps. The software is so easy to use and it works. Real time updates, lots of datalog storage, PC Data loging, Ecu Dataloging, and damn near anything else you want in an ecu.

Sorry biased opinion , Do it.

Also here is a link to one of my cals with a log file and a full mods list. So if you want to see what a fully tuned cal looks like there you have it.

Easy choice. First mod I do to my personal cars. No exhaust, or intake. First thing I get is an ecu. Doing what I do I want control over ever aspect of the ecu in live time for changing and logging

my opinion; let an aem protuner set it up/tune it for you & make sure they don't "lock the tune" ; then go in and mess around with it yourself after

Questions:
1) Does aem provide a base tune with thier V2 when its bought?
2) if a used unit is purchased, can the base tune be downloaded from thier site (assuming the used item is moded)
3) any known thread that shows the layout of the sw? simplicity...etc?

Thanks in advance!

AEM provides a base cal. This is a CAL to get the car started, and drive it to the dyno for tuning.

You can download all the software and base cals from the forums. Simply download the AEM Pro, or AEM Tuner.

ya I was wondering if they offer a base cal and save half the work. Thanks for the feedback guys, will give the software a try.
The thought of live tuning is great.

on a side note, do we need to use thier map & iat sensors as well? do those need to be bought with the controller?
