Question Automap function

Hey guys,

My AEM EMS was tuned very conservatively by Tym over at Buschur Racing, and I seem to be running very rich durring cruise conditions. What I am wondering, is if I should mess with the automap function or not. It looks like you can either automap or not automap, with no option to only automap at cruise and leave the WOT section of the map alone. If this is correct, then I guess I will end up making manual adjustments to the cruise portion of the map because I don't want to alter the WOT portion of the map that is so well set up by Tym.

Any thoughts post them up!

Keith

George from Boost Solutions told me that the cruise A/Fs were set in the 17:1 range! Supposedly, this results in very economical operation under safe conditions, in my experience, whatever settings the maps have do not give me good gas mileage at all. I'm barely getting 18 mpg even when driving off boost for an entire tankfull . I think the maps are set to run too rich in other conditions, not necessarily when needed for safe operation .... Perhaps the key lies in the idle and start conditions. My car idles somewhat erratically and is prone to stalling even though the idle is set nominally at 1100 rpm..... Also, I think the strong smell of the fumes coming from the car while idling and right after stopping indicate over-rich conditions, no?
Anyway, perhaps this automap feature is the answer

I can't see a 17:1 ratio when cruising! Hell, I barly hit 17.9:1 when the injectors shut off durring decel! With my base map from Buschur I got 20 mpg cruising at 80 mph under zero boost conditions. Then driving back and forth to work I got 15.9 mpg. Today while out tuning with the automap with the target A/F ratio for cruise set to 14:1 I was able to pull out 21.7 mpg cruising at all different RPM's accelerating up and down in variouse gears and zero boost. I hope to get it back up to at least my "pre modded" gas milage of between 23 and 28 mpg on the highway.

OK, this sounds much more like it. How do you go about doing this? what features or options do I need with my AEM to do this?

Do you have the 30-1313U or the 30-1313 unit?

The 30-1313U EMS unit has the built in wide band O2 sensor. You can do it that way, or you can get a separate wide band O2 sensor and use that as an input to the standard 30-1313 EMS unit for the automap function and O2 feedback control. You can read all about the automap function in the PDF instruction file.

Later,

Keith
