Exclamation MAF (Mass Air Flow) or Speed Density??

I plan on getting an AEM EMS installed very soon. From what I understand there is an additional 3.5 bar sensor that would convert it to speed density.

What are the difference in gains in HP from both types of setups?

I don't plan on doing many mods, and would like to keep it simple. Right now, I am planning on just using the MAF, but am wondering if I would be losing out on some HP, and how much??

Any ideas?

Thanks.

brief rundown

MAP = harder to setup tuning with higher HP potential. Look at the VPC . . . . it doesn't cost cheap, because it's effective

MAF/MAS = easier to tune with lesser HP potential

Hotwire = same as above but a tad better in HP rating and better throttle response

FWIW the Hot-Wire setup is capable of similar HP levels as the MAP conversion, and slightly improved drivability.. however it depends on the unit since its size itself could be a restriction. With a MAP sensor, it goes into whatever intake pipe setup you choose so it would never be a restriction.

I strongly recommend using the AEM 3.5 BAR MAP sensor and fabricating a cold air intake pipe without the MAF. The MAP method is easier to tune initially, but will require minor changes to the fuel map whenever additional mods that affect engine airflow are made. With the EVO EMS there are limited options for MAF sensors at this time, although once it is tuned, theoretically the MAF can compensate for changes in airflow due to mods for the engine.

Go with teh 3.5bar MAP.

It is less restrictive ( more power), and it is easier to tune ( boost comped fuel map). Driveability can be tuned to be the same...
