HI Everyone,
My name is Max and I am 100% Thailand living in Bangkok, Thailand. So if you ever have a question about things in Thailand, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them for you. I had a chance to read over a few of the web postings on this board and noticed that people woder why having a fixed up Camry or Honda FIT seem to be the way the tuners build cars here in Thailand.
Well first off, you have to understand that we have very limited car manufacturing sites here in Thailand, so all "nice" cars must be imported into the country. The import fee is 200% the value of the car, which means cars in Thailand cost about 3 times that amount they do in America. A brand new Evo X runs about 4.4Million Baht or about 125,000 USD. I recently purchased a S-Class Mercedes that ran me 8 Million Baht or 230,000 USD. A new GTRI've been trying to get my hands on runs about 10 Million Baht or 260,000 USD and my friend just bought a new Ferrari for 21 Million Baht or 600,000 USD.
I own a few cars, but as you can see, they cost a lot more than the ones in the USA. Now heres where the biggest challenge comes from. The average college graduate makes only 20,000 baht per month (575 USD) so it would be impossible for them to purchased an imported car. This is why the Camry, Yaris, Honda Fit, City and Civic do so well. They are somewhat affordable for the average household.
Anyways if anyone stops by Thailand, please give me a call....heres a picture of my Evo, so you don't think that all cars in Thailand are rice.

Here are a few web links to see pictures from this years AWD compition in Thailand. Basically a race between Subies and Evos here in Thailand. We had about 80 cars attend the event if not more, so it shows that Evos really do exist here in the land of smiles.
Of course if you are looking for some the best looking JDM style rides in Thailand, then the team to beat is Siam Speed. They have completely tricked out race/show cars from Supras, RX8, and 350Z....If you are interested, let me know and I'll post up a few pictures...

Well here are a few of the racing Evos we have in Thailand. These cars participated in the 2008 Super Car. I believe at Bangsaen this year we had 4 Evo running.
