I am changing my engine and thinking of the 1.6 mivec or gdi 1.8 4g93. The engine would be for a 97 lancer ck2. What I would like to know is which is the better engine in terms of reliability performance, and which responds better to mods ?.

 

Without a question the MIVEC engine is the better option. With the R&D work already available (due to the engine being used in race conditions) it gives endless solutions for bolt on modifications.

Sure. But do u realise the CE mivec engine seems to be as rare as ducks nuts, and hard find too boot. I rang around 5-6 import wreckers and found 2... both CC motors. An do u have plenty $$$? There's no question which is the better motor, but do ur research before u get ur heart set on it.

Thanks for the advice and opinions. I some checking and found that the mivec can go up to 8000 rpms. I am also thinking that with that amount of rpms, there would be more wear on the internals when compared to lets say a 4g63 or any other "normal" engine. Does this mean that the mivec is a high maintenance engine?

 

No the MIVEC will rev to 9,000 not 8,000. When comparing to the 4G63 I am asuming that you mean the engine from the Evolution (I know there are also other versions) and that too revs to 9,000. I normal 1.8L Lancer revs to 8,000. But the Mivec is a race engine, it is not high maintence, it is manufactured a lot stronger than many other engines in the range.

 

Have u seen a CE Mivec for sale though? What do they go for? I can't imagine install would be close to cheap either.
