driving with a turbo

Just wondering if anyone has had any hassles driving the stock Lancer with a turbo fitted. Does it go a bit out of control being only a two-wheel drive? I understand that a brake upgrade is probably a good idea but what about keeping the thing in a straight line?! I'm not talking about when you drive insane but just when you want to "give it a bit" every now and then.

If anyone has done this mod and has no problems, I'd love to hear from you. I would hate to spend all that money and not be able to control the thing!

Look I can tell you first hand, you will have no problem. Fit a LSD and this will increase control and drivability. For all those who don't know what a LSD is, it is used to decrease wheel spin. How it works is it takes power from the spining wheel and give that power to the other wheel, therefore limiting any wheel spin and increasing responsiveness.

So how much should I expect to pay for an LSD? I gather that you have done this sort of modification on your car? And the stock 1.8L engine can handle running a turbo? (just wanna be sure that I'm not going to trash a perfectly good motor!)

Yeah a bit more here, I would think around $1500. Yes the engine can handle a turbo, if you want to make big power, you will need to strengthen a fair bit. Take it to a shop and get it all done there, it has been done so many times it is not funny.

I'm not looking at getting a ridiculous amount of power, just enough to have a bit of fun. The stock Lancer aint that powerful...a coupla months ago I got dragged off my a 50 year old lady in a Mazda Astina! So what do you suggest I do? There are a couple of good places in Adelaide that I have been talking to and one guy has suggested this....
TD04/05 (second hand)
LT8 Microtech ECU
EVO or Supra intercooler (second hand)
custom manifold and dump
(some other parts that are needed)

Plus an upgraded clutch and bigger fuel pump.

Does this sound about right?

Sounds alright.. has he used this combo before? Make sure ur talking to someone with tryed and true results... cause it's amazing how much difference u will get with tiny deviations from a tryed combo.
Aparently VR4 Galant Intercoolers are also 1 of the best flowing factory cores, and priced them at several places for around $500.
For the extra money it's probly worth it to get a custom turbo manifold and dump pipe with a 2.5 - 3" exhaust.

Boost on!
