Evolution VIII in Australia
That should have been "and" not "but".
Yes I agree that with everything I have read the Evolution VI is faster in a straight line. But around a track I still think the Japanese spec Evolution VIII would be faster but I have never driven either so
.
I am not worried about what version Australia gets because my father has put a deposit on one, it is a condition that it has to be Japanese spec or he gets the deposit back.
I do think it would be a bad idea for Mitsubishi to bring out a slower version of the VIII after we got the full VI TME, especially if even the full VIII is not as fast, as you say. This is something that Mitsubishi seems to do often and it is dissapointing.

Yes I agree, the full Jap spec would be very nice, but put it this way if you are planning on even mildly tweaking the engine, how much it has stock will have little to do with the end result. As it is only a fuel issue which is probably effecting the boost pressure delivered it will not be too hard to earn the extra kw back. Jap spec or not I would go for it.
the american car is known simply as the Evolution. Mitsubishi Australia did earlier say that they would only bring the full on Japanese version so theres still a bit of hope. The Japanese RS has a 5 speed manual so maybe thats the one they're bringing in. around the track the EVO VIII should be a bit quicker than the VI, here is a quote from Wheels, "Around the Okazaki skid pad, the EVO VIII corners some 10-15km/h quicker than its predecessor."
Mitsubishi needs the EVO in Australia regardless of spec, the STi is also a detuned version but is selling very well.
