Well after a few more trials - ive decided I prefer the Optimax - It would be nice if they would make it a little more affordable though.

ok, i have been using optimax the whole time i have had my car, 4 months or so...and only recently ive been hearing bad things about it, like for example the fuel is only for cars with power like gsr's or skyline etc... and lancers valves will melt or sumthin with fuel that is 98 octane... now i need some backup if this information is correct, then i will stop using premium and go back to normal unleaded, cheers

Mate don't ever let anyone tell you such BS. Lancers are tough *****'s and love all the power you can get from them, I should know!! You continue to enjoy your car on the 98 fuels and the only thing that will melt will be the dudes your car smokes

Drive on

On the other hand, if you didn't tune your car for Optimax, you may not be getting too many benefits out of it either. I believe Lancers have passive knock sensors, so it doesn't automatically tune to a higher octane.

All modern lancers have an 02 sensor to detect the higher density though, so after a few tanks, you'd be getting better fuel economy.

Just regular unleaded from Shell/BP/Mobil - one of the big brands.

If you retune, run 3-4 tanks on premium first, then retune on a dyno.

No. I'm saying that the majority of the benefits from Premium aren't realised, unless you retune.

There are a very few small benefits, such as higher energy yield, higher density, and higher detergency.

They can help partly with that.

They can advance timing a little further than stock, since you're using a higher octane fuel. If you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator fitted, you can also change mixture levels.

For a proper job, a programmable ECU or an interceptor ECU will be required.

I have spoken to a number of car enthusiasts about the theory that Octanes evaporate from your fuels, and its true.

Knowing this, and hearing from many people that Optimax is the worst, i.e. Optimax retains Octane much less than the other fuels.

How can you guys still say its a good fuel .... ???

All those, who have taken the time to test it, does it perform as well at the start, when you fill up, compared to the end when your almost out ???

ok well ive tried all petrol and my whole car club has compared n discussed which petrol is good n not

optimax : makes some cars ping alot such as my frends forrester sti my magna and my evo

mobile synergy: the best of the lot get it if u can

bp ultimate: beware sum bp just sell bp premium make sure it says ultimate otherwise its onli 95 octane... but i use bp ultimate alot ez to find and usualli the cheapest of all the 98octanes usualli onli 5-6 cents higher then normal unleaded

caltex vortex : would onli fill this if i was desperate but i find it not too bad but its onli 95 octane so yeh keep that in mind

also wat i suggest is get ur car tuned to perform with which ever octane u decide to use more often say if u use 95 octane fuel get it tued for that so it dusnt run rich or lean... helps ur cars performance aswell as cld give u better mileage most hi po cars from japan run 101 octane or was it 100? 1 of the 2 so gettin ur car tuned for aussie fuel would make it run better

heard bp is gonna bring out a 100 or 101 octane fuel heard it last year but dunno if its true or not yet but shld b seeing astho japans got more octane..
but dun go by wat i say on that its just sumfin i heard

i never get wollies petrol just cause ive heard alot of **** about it. i usually get BP ultimate but now ive found a BP 95 octane which is quite abit cheaper and i dont really notice any difference between it and the 98 stuff. my car runs **** with any 91octane.
