high flow cat

hi all, i got a exhaust put on not too long ago which consisted of extractors, 3 and half inch tip and some piping, i did not get the high flow cat. now i am wondering how much performance loss i am getting by not having one, and is it worth to go out and get one fitted? thank u all in advance

well, you will notice a gain, i can tell you that much, if you get one. a test pipe would be even better, but im not sure of your emission rules or lancer exhaust set up on the car you have. but having similair motors, you will get a gain. you will not be as loud though as a test pipe, depending on what you want.

That's very broad a question, since you haven't even given us what model, let alone what mods.

Remember that a stock cat tends to be very slightly restrictive already, and replacing it from stock on most cars give 3-5hp at the wheels. So if your car already has other mods to make it generate more exhaust, you can expect a little more.

As for the test pipe, if you get pulled over for an inspection, you could be in serious trouble if you've removed the Cat. While this is unlikely, there have been a lot more cars being pulled over by police and EPA for defect inspections lately. They seem to especially be targeting obviously modified cars... Which is why I have an exhaust on my Evo that is still 3" straight through, but looks stock.

i was told the the stock cat is pretty good and that the gain isnt worth the money but then other people have gotten them and say they noticed gains. the best price ive seen is $300 for a high flow cat but id rather spend my cash on something else.

yep. what i did get that made a big gain was a 2.25" dump pipe and flex pipe. this is the pipe going from the headers to the cat. it gave me a nice gain that i could notice. that cost me $180 fitted.
