It would only be illegal if you don't upgrade other safety features likes brakes ( fitting rear discs etc). a Few guys have the mod done, but a few have also gone the 4G93T way from the GSR, which still requires the discs at the rear. ( i have rang my local RTA on this subject, as theres stuff in the pipeline still )

I had a CC GSR about 5 years ago mate, and sold it to a couple that were right into their lancers. I was actually meant the fitment of 2L 4G63 Evo engines into CC GSRs (replacing the 4G93), that already have rear discs. I should have been more specific.

They were instructed by the RTA in NSW that Evo engine transplants were illegal, but that fitting the 'cyclone' 2L engine from the Galant was ok. Doesn't make sense to me, considering the Evo engine (at least the 1,2,3) architecture is similar to the Galant, but thats what they were told. They got around it through slight of hand, and fitted an Evo 2 engine eventually btw.

All except this one 2L conversion I have seen into CC GSRs have been cyclones. Why do people fit them over Evo engines if there isn't a rule prohibiting Evo transplants?

i think cause they're easier to get, cheaper and only make a bit less power.
