Question Power Mods

I am a first time Lancer owner (pics in 'whats your rice thread').

I would like to know what preliminary mods that can be made to boost performance - without effecting the warranty and maybe a price range.

Unfortunatley unlike many new '03 model lancer owners my sbudget is very tight, but it would be nice to know what small steps i can take untill i win lotto and can go all the way out.

Thanks

Scott

anything you do will basically void your warrany,
best thing to do is get a aid pod and fit it, dont throw away your old set up though, cause all u need to do is switch it over with u take your car to the repairer, and use a power octaine boost for your petrol

Any idea where i could look for a price on the air pod? Like i said 'very new to this'

Im pretty sure your allowed a small exhaust upgrade as well, which will help.. if you ring your local mitsi, they should be able to help you out with your warranty..

Try a K&N panel filter first. That will be fully warranted.

You can also bring in a racing oil for the next service - as long as it's SAE compliant, they'll have to warrant that as well.

Also, this will void your warranty, but leaves little/no trace. Get an aftermarket computer with a HARNESS, so that you can install and replace it without cutting wires.

I'm not condoning the deception if you do blow up your engine and want to claim warranty though. Do that at your own risk, not Mitsubishi's.

The aftermarket computer is a good idea, seeing you can just piggyback it, and when you take it for a service, just change them back, and it would work.

Check out rpw.com.au . They reckon the warranty is only voided on what u replace, eg.modifying the exhaust voids the whole exhaust. Keep us posted cause my car is new too

That's a pretty broad statement, but almost true.

If you replace the exhaust, they can't refuse warranty claims, on say, your interior lighting.

However, if you replace the exhaust, and your catalytic converter melts, they can refuse to warrant one hell of a lot. (Sensors, computers, anything which would be directly or indirectly affected by the aftermarket part.

I was told by the dealer who sold me the car that if i replaced the exhaust that the only effect on my warranty would be that they wouldnt cover the new exhaust - understandably.

Yeah, that makes sense... but when you think about it,

You chuck something new in which boosts performance, and thats going to effect a crapload of other stuff.

Say most parts work at 90% capacity normally, and you boost something else, they might now work at 105% of capacity, thus indirectly causing accelerated wear on those parts. Which may not be comvered at all...

So meh, they are all out to boost profit and save their own wallets...
