Far as i'm aware its the 15 year rule. Otherwise there would be a flood of Evo 1s coming in this year.

Instead its '89 R32 GTRs at the moment.
I could be wrong but last I checked, it was 12 years allowing a whole heap of R33 GTs and GTRs in. In perth we see a massive amount of them and they are rising.

I'll check again and update you. Just think, in 2014 you can buy an imported JDM EVO VIII...

The 15 year rule allows ANY car to be imported.
newer cars need to get passed the sevs (you will need to look up the requirements of the car to be imported)

The older rules basically allowed any coupe (no petrol passenger cars i.e.3,4,5 door cars this was to protect local car industry) diesels models where also allowed to be imported (this was the reason there are so many nissan terranos, toyota surfs, toyota coronas, toyota tarago's)

Guarantee you its the 15 year rule. There are heaps of GTSTs and GTR r33s over here too, but NONE of them are yet 12 years old, so there goes that theory mate (r33s were made from 93-98).

The reason they can bring them in is primarily because the skyline bodyshape was never sold here - in r32, 33 or 34 form).

If it was 12 years, i'd be shopping around for a nice Evo1 at the moment for about 10K!

If money's not really an object, rent a top-of-the-line Holden Monaro. 245kW V8 & 6 speed.

You know it as the new Pontiac GTO - but it was designed and built in Australia, and is FAR less ugly than the US version. They are very cool.

Maybe a Ford Falcon XR6 turbo, they are pretty sweet too. 240kW, 5 speed.

Keep in mind both of these are relatively big cars, and only rwd.

Theres not really a whole lot of (current) turbo cars sold in Oz that aren't sold in the US. If you really want the Skyline experience, buy one for a few months and thrash the bejeezus out of it! About $US13K will get you a nice R33 GTST (rwd), less for a 32.

as far as an exotic or a cool car to hire your choice is going to be limited to the GMH monaro or the Ford xr 6 or 8 but these are very heavy cars (power to weight) but they can be a lot of fun to drive you could go to a car dealer who deals in new cars and look at leasing one of there cars as a demo type yo can then start looking at the BMW's, Audi's, and maybe even Merc's but most companies that send there employees know who much it cost to hire a car and the transport allowance may not be enough to hire most of the above cars to get into a BMW ect expect to pay about $300 aud per week I think that may include insurance as for the GMH and Ford possibly $150 per week

best hing to do is start doing a search for the correct info now and talk to people directly involved in hiring these cars
