Might be moving to Brisbane
I have an opportunity through work to move to Brisbane for 6 months. I thought about trying to get them to fly my EVO VIII over from the US, but doubt that's going to happen.
Then I got thinking, there's probably a lot of cars available in Australia that I don't have access to in the US! Like Skylines and previous EVO and STi models and such...right? We only have the Evo VIII here.
Thanks.

You will find that over here are huge amounts of R32, R33 and more and more R34 Skylines. Also the S13 through to S15 Silvias and 180sx are rife, not to forget the 300zx.
There are quite a few R32 and R33 GTRs around to have fun in and once again the R34 is starting to imerge.
You should be able to get your hands on an EVO IV or VI pretty easily but going back from an VIII is always tough.
Regarding STIs and such, we have natively the STIs from Version 5 (the 2 door version). I am not sure how easy it is to get them over there but if you wanted one here it'd take no timee at all to nab one. Our only problem here is that the STIs have never been released with DCCD
making the EVO VIII a great buy.
The other side of it is that you can with a bit of stuffing around pretty much import most cars from Japan as well.
Just some ideas to think of - hey you might even get into the Aussie V8s whilst here.
Don't forget the EVO VIII will be for sale here as of July this year, and with full ACD!

A few bits about the cars completely disregarding personal tastes :P
The R33 unfortunaley was the heaviest and slowest GTR made. The handling suffered greatly from teh increase on car size over the R32. I have competed against a few GTRs out on the track and rallies. The R32 definately have the handling over the 33s and do more than keep up in a straight line.
The R34 was a reaction to teh problems encountered with the 33. The R34 was based on the 32 with a smaller platform and improved weight reduction and handling. Over here in Aus the R33 GTR is an easy buy as many were exported out from Japan. The R32 GTR is still easy to get but you have to do a lot more searching around as they are holding value.
In Aus with have the 12 year rule: where 12 years after a car's model year the car can be imported easily into Aus. This makes the R32 GTRs now very easy to bring in.

Thanks for all the advice guys!
I actually get an allowance for transportation per week. So, maybe I can rent a different car like every couple weeks or every month! Who knows.

Why get a skyline, silvia or a wrx man. If you want attention. Get something different for a change. I'm from the Gold Coast (bout 1.5 hr's drive from brisbane) and all you see are skylines, silvia's and wrx's. At first when they were the s**t they became real head turners. Now you look at them as though they're a normal family car. Even ones that are modded and have a kick **** paint job still don't get the effect they used to.
Be original and get something that wouldn't be expected as a head turner. Perhaps purchase an even earlier evo. Like an Evo III. They're pretty nice looking cars. You don't see enough of them round these days. They shouldn't be too hard to get ur hands on. Or you could get a GSR and put an Evo III kit onto it and maybe a donk a vr4 into the baby and away you go. Well that's only my opinion anyway. So no hard feelings to those dudes that have skylines an so on.
Cheers -=lanca-lot=-

Skylines, Silvias and WRXs are becoming pretty common but getting hold of an EVO III is quite a hard thing to do. You'd be better going for a later model or a VI which was actually released here and there are parts available for. As for getting a GSR and putting an EVO III kit on it - I don't see the point! If you were looking at WRXs and Skyline GTRs in teh first place that'd be a huge step backwards. Going into rice-country.
For bang for your buck in the true car market the WRXs and EVOs have it. They have all the safey features along with lots of goodies, so why not go down that path when it is so accessable?
You want to stand out? Don't buy a jap car in the firsy place... As fun as they are to drive, they don't really fall into the class of an AMG, M series, Lotus, Ferrari and so on. Now they'd stand out!

Hell, we've got EVO VIII's that have only have out for a year that are running in the mid 10's already! Now they didn't waste any time.
Why would I want a Skyline? How about because they aren't available where I live!
Hey, I know you guys keep saying I could mod these, but I'll only be over there for a short amount of time, so I'll probably be renting a vehicle. Is it possible to rent these?
