Cold Air
Cold Air
I have an '01 1.8L 5 speed Lancer.
Exhaust is the only mod...so far.
I have been quoted A$550 to A$670 for a stainless pipe and K and N filter moved to just below the fairing in front of the left front tyre.
MY QUESTION: Does anyone know if this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634
would fit?
It looks the right size and shape but i JUST DON'T KNOW!!!
It has the right bracket to reposition my airflow sensor and it is a **** load cheaper.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
Hoozdman.

Actually says its for the 2 litre (4G94) engine.. so im not sure if they used the same AFM and same intake size as the 1.8 4G93 SOHC.. But if anyone has tried it out and measured them up, it might be all for it..
BTW do they both run the same side battery ? That would be another thing to work out for the piping..
EDIT : You do know this is on the American EBAY don't you ? they didn't have the 4G93s in thier 02-03 Lancers, they ran the 4G94s.

Okay

Make sure when you do it, take step by step photos, we may use them for a guide..
Pete.
I just had a look at it you may want to add a flexable joint to it as it may be too ridged in the engine bay and could do damage to the throttle body - imagine this pipe being bolted to the body work of the car nice and stiff no movement - the purpose of engine mounts is to soften the amount of movement that the engine makes but the motor still moves - right - now after several months of giving the car a boot full of revs and the engine moves but the cold air pipe does not - eventually you will find that you may have stress fractures on the T/B becoz this is the linking point between something that moves and something that does not
allow about 10mm for a joint when you cut it and rejoin with a rubber sleeve, good luck with it hope it works out - I was probably one of the people who may of paid the $600 odd for there cold air intake and I have absolutly no regrets with it

thats bloody expensive man for a tiny little gain. i made my own for about $100 using a simota filter. i just used plastic 3" piping. not very smooth but i think the optimum diameter is 2-2.25" so the ripples in the pipe should make up for the extra diameter.

ok
the throttle body piece and the air flow sensor bracket (to connect from the n box to a pod) worked fantastic, the pipe will need a little tweaking to fit properly.
So, all in all, i am happy with it so far, foto's to follow, mainly becuase i was costed at AUD$85, just for the air flow sensor adapter, let alone the pod and the throttle body adapter.
Cheers

Fit the filter, take it for a drive to enjoy the new sound
, then when you get back, measure up the perspex and build a box to shield it off from the engine bay. This is a legal requirement in NSW if you use a cloth or paper filter. (Fire hazard, otherwise) Then, measure the length you need to get from the newly made box and where you want to stick it out of on the front grill, and cut off that much piping. Use a combination of cable ties and mounts to fit the piping to where you want it to go. Cut relevant holes and make sure nothing protrudes under the car (Great attention getter for police to indicate your car is home modified and therefore likely to be defected)
Around about 8-12 hours later (essentially write off one weekend), you have a cold air system which is arguably better than the one they're offering, because
1) The filter is closer to the TB, which means you have quicker response
2) Plastic is a better insulator than stainless steel, so it's less likely to pick up radiant heat during stand still traffic.
