What are the options for the owners of the carb 4g15 - short of replacing entire engine/car?

The over-run and pinging on standard fuel is quite annoying!

Any details on this subject would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

to change from carb to efi u need to get new wire loom for the injectors, fuel pump fitted into tank, ahh throttle body, etc etc etc... your lookin at about $800+ on parts, then u gotta consider installing it? u gana do it or are u gana get some1else... in all honesty if u want more power just get a Falcon XD carby and wack it on

Do what I did when I converted a five liter Ford. Go to the wrecking yard. I went to a pick and pull. This is the least expensive easiest way I could find and in California the smog (CARB) rules are wicked.

Did it bolt on ? or did you have to make a spacer on the plenum to the carby to sit?

Pete.

the way i fixed this problem.. advanced timing 2 degrees, and run premium.. not only does it run better, i get a lot nicer fuel economy when giving it a bit out on the highway..

What does anyone know about carb replacements for this engine? wouldn't the carb from a 4.1 litre be a little big? Who has done this and what were the results?

dont go holley... they just drink and u get nothing in performance... if u wana go aftermarket carbz go webber... yes u will pay more for it, BUT you will go faster and u wont drink as much as a holley.... since the lancer is such a small motor the best thing for price is the XD carb... cause our opening is about a 10cent piece ... the XD is like nearly 2 to 2,25 inch opening

electrics the basics of a motor are the more air and fuel u feed it the faster it goes... now a 4.1 ltr ford carb will make a lancer go much faster (for what it is a 1.5 carby) and yes the results were interesting... car had much better pull all around and was better up top end... uve seen a CC carby, they are tiny like microscopic!so defently a bigger carby like the 4.1 would feed more fuel and air to the car makin it go much better and faster.
Only thing is if your insurance company finds out uve done it, u wont get covered

No offense RalliArt1994 but Im pretty sure I'm up with the 'basics of a motor', but thanks for your help. I know about big carbs too, my last car was a 74 civic 1200 with a huge webber, head work, cams, exhaust, lightened flywheel etc. etc.

rexhunta, interesting about the ford having re-badged webber. Do you know exactly what size webber it is? Surely you would need to do some serious choking and jetting to get it to work well.

Also, when my engine over-runs, it starts up backward (I'm pretty sure). Wouldn't that and the pinging suggest that in my case it would need retarding a couple of degrees?
