Hi there,

yep all evo(1-7) 4G63s are 2L. The Gsr in Australia came only as 1.8Ls but i know a lot of ppl who have chucked an evo or Vr4 2L engine inside!

As far as i know, the only low-volume evos allowed are the 5, 6 and makkinens(no idea about the 7). if you are looking at an evo 1-4, make sure it has a yellow compliance plate(personal import) or it's more than likely a dodgy deal.

If im correct, there were 2L 4G63-T engines in the Vr4s during the early 90s. These engines and the evo1-3 4G63s fit pretty well into the 1.8L Aust Gsr with just a bit of work.

The 2L version of the 1.8L Gsrs are the Evo 1-3s. I don't know where else in the world 1.8L Gsrs are avaliable though. Hope i'm correct about this info! hehe

Much difference.. 4g63 much tuffer, advanced and more powerfull then 4G93T in the GSR (basicly a DOHC Turbo version of N/A Lancer motor from what I can gather). The 4G63 puts out 206kw and the GSR would be more like 150-60kw (I think?). Think WRX vs. STI. And the VR4 Definitly 2L... Dunno bout the lower specs

Sorry, yeah I'm pretty sure the VR4 spec Galant has the same 4G63T as the EVO ('cept maybe some small differences). The only time I've even seen a 3000GT, was care of Gran Turismo 2 (God bless the good ol' Playstation) so I haven't a clue what is under it's bonnet

hehe kewl... wuld u say the 96' gsr is worth the 14kish price??

or the 2.0L conversion into say.. a glxi. i read off a site that you might as well not bother because theres more to building an evo from a glxi then the engine but if i do i wuld prolli change everything into after market parts in time cos i wanna drag

Not worth converting a GLXi to a EVO........that is crazy. Yes there is much, much more to it than just the engine.

I have a '97 GSR and I say its been worth it.
I wan't the later model because I love this shape and that the CC models are bloody common as here in NZ
As for converting a GLXi into an Evo, don't bother, its easier and probably cheaper to just buy the evo in the first place.
The early VR4 4G63 is pretty much the same as the evos except just a bit older and less tuned as the evo's.
Just to clear up, GSR engines are totally different to the evo's. Thats 1.8L GSR's not Evo GSR's.
One more thing, down here when you say VR4 you are talking about Galants, not GTO's (3000GT's).

Hope that makes sense.

Ahhh someone from the luck country (as far as imported cars are concerned). Nice to see that we have a few interested New Zealanders here too.
