That's the sound coming from my gear box, differential, or transfer case. Haven't pin-pointed it yet... Looks like I might need a rebuild.

 

Too much power and torque on the e85??

 

I think that Kevin has some of those things "in stock" at the shop. Steal them from the red RS

 

That sucks man, sorry to hear that! What happened? Did it happen at the divisional?

 

Hard to say but I think so. At the divisional last weekend, the car was hopping and peg-legging quite a bit (OEM front sway probably too soft) and with that kind of grip when it catches I can only imagine the kind of stress it was putting on the system.

That and the car has 106K miles on it. They don't last forever. I suppose it was about due to happen.

Shep does a transfer case rebuild for $1400 with upgraded parts. Kevin at Evolution dynamics will do my removal and re-install. At the same time I'll have him put in a new 6-puck clutch and pressure plate. Once done, she'll be better than new and ready to kill!!

 

Yes, that's an expensive bummer. But you're right, they don't last forever. I've heard the "death whine" videos elsewhere on this site; sounds like a siren as speed increases. Shep will make right though!

After further analysis and consideration, it has been deemed ok enough to keep driving. It is whining but only just a little. So I might as well keep on running it and see how much more I can get out of it. Guess I'll see you all on the 28th.
