Stock Bottom End

I have read on the AMS website (great info too), that the stock bottom end, with appropriate head studs, head work and all supporting mods, the stock bottom can support up to 550 horsepower. I understand this to be true...but isn't that pushing it, just a bit?

Also, Im trying to decide on a fast spooling, high HP turbo. I'd like to eventually run a stroker kit, which would make sense to use the 3076 and eventually a GT35R, even though I'd sacrifice the 100 horses for driveability. Any recomendations?

Man drivability is not even an issue with the GT35R. Spoolup is instantaneous. Just like stock but better because it will make a ton more power. I know this because my friend Chris just got his car back from AMS today. Well he just got back into town from driving back down here. He is running the GT35R with the 2.3L setup. On C-16 and 35psi he is making about 650whp and 570ft/lbs of torque. On pump and 23psi he is making 450whp and 370ft/lbs of torque. So no need to sacrifice 100whp for drivability because you will be kicking yourself and buy a GT35R. Even on the 2.0L the 35R will be very drivable.

i totaly second that, my car is running 15 psi on the gt35 (not tuned yet) on the 2.0 and the drivability is not even an issue and yes i drive the car every day, on a stroker a gt35 would spool almost like stock but would scare the **** out of you. i can not wait until i get mine tuned though.
lag on the gt35 is way exagerated on this forum, off course i am talking about the AMS gt35 because i have it, i don't know about the others.

It will work really well. I know AMS runs a Greddy Profec B spec 2 on there car. I have a friend that also runs the AEM EMS with one also. Works really well and makes it alot easier to adjust the boost rather than going into the Boost map on the AEM.

Thats a good point. Im really into on the fly adjustment, I do have a dedicated lap top I plan on storing under the passenger seat. I know my boost gauge is correct, but with the temperature flucuations I see in the spring and fall, even from a summer morning to afternoon will give me a 1-2 psi flux. We had an 88 degree day last wednesday, I came out in the morning running 19psi, by 3:00 it was down to 15 and the next day after I adjusted it was well over 23psi, so I dont want to have to dig into something like the EMS just to adjust boost. Good call.

I don't mean to crash this thread but until last Tueday I too thought that the lag from a GT35 set up would be to much to handle on the streets. I rode in a Buschur racing turbo kitted car that had the GT35 ball bearing set up with alcohol and trust me, even at 400+ hp the supposed lag was non-existent. Now I'm looking at this set up verses the Greddy T-67 set up. I wish AMS was closer to Dallas, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Blown, Kuba23 has a T67 and the car is a rocket, but I definitely see the turbo lag in there. It spools crazy at 4200 revs, but the car feels stock up until that point. Great turbo, I just think for his previous setup was too big. Now hes got a built motor (soon) and we'll see what happens. The GT35r is supposedly a fast spooling turbo for its size.

I personally think that the 2.3L provides a huge advantage in spoolup and off boost power. I too was skeptical about the mixed reviews of the stroker, but now I would go no other way. I believe it will be well worth the cost to do a stroker. A stroker with the GT35R spools very close to the stock turbo setup. Just my .02.

To install the AMS stroker does the block need any major machining besides a hone job ??

From what I understand, NO. Maybe the AMS guys can jump in and say something about that?

I guess low 5k spool and 650whp on stock bottom end.We will see as Trinababe and HPF will push it until it blew.
