Anybody else have problems with slow *** cars blocking them? Nice looking ride though but what the hell is a RS-4 anyway??

Man that white Miata (dont know who was driving at the time) scared the crap out of me. On the 3rd run in the green group, it got really sideways into turn one after the straight away right in front of me. Scared the crap out of me, then I glanced over at my 65 year old dad. He looke d a bit concerned... hahaha
hahah that was me in the green group. It was the only time I lost her all day. The tires started getting a bit greasy on me and I broke way to late going into it. Not a good combo.

Why yes it may have been.

It was good to meet everyone out there.
Damn shame about the couple of incidents, especially since the one involving two cars could have been easily avoided. From what I could tell, looking at the aftermath, the car that "hit the curb" actually cut the curb altogether and put one or two wheels in the grass inside the curb, which is why the splitter got smashed and which is why the oil filter got ripped off the car.
IIRC all of the Evo "outages" in the afternoon sessions where due to the intake hose blowing off the throttle body.
I had a great time out there. Ran in the Novice (purple) group in the morning and then in the Intermediate (yellow) group in the afternoon. Quick summary of my day:
1. Went out late with the first Novice group. Car ran good, but had some boost cut issues coming down the big straights. Fixed with a reflash after the session
2. Went out with second Novice group right before lunch. No more boost cut, but still seemed a little sluggish on the main straights. Popped the diptstick on the last lap, ugh. Cleaned up the mess under the hood over lunch, zip tied the dip stick into place, and tightened my BOV down a bit.
3. Went out with the Intermediate group right after lunch (see how that works?
). Car ran like a champ. Hawk HP+ pads are definitely not enough, since I was getting brake fade once I started to push deeper into the brake zones.
4. Went out with an instructor, Lawrence, this time ... got in 2 warm up laps and 2 hot laps before the session got black flagged due to a downed Evo (hose off TB). Got some very good pointers from my instructor on how to handle turns 3-5. Thankfully they let us finish our session. Got a boost leak on the last lap (boost down to 12-15psi, ugh).
Couldn't find the leak in time to make the next session, so that was pretty much the end of my day. I had a great time though, and to all those people that keep asking me about my engine build "was it worth it"? I can finally say HELL YEAH!

Hey Guys!
It was a blast. Im glad everyone had a good time and worked through the teething pains.
I agree with John, we will need to do some more instructing before letting beginners just have at it. No matter how much street or on/off ramp bombs you do, you never experience brake fade, or even driving your car at the limit lap after lap.
I think its essential to show how it should be done while driving and talking and the fine tunning a drivers inputs. Its hard to explain that smooth is fast, but easy to show it.
I had a lot of great students in various evo's and the owner of the RS4. What a great car! But a little to heavy to keep up with the evos, but an awesome car from Audi.
As for having problems with Hawks. It is VERY important to do a proper bedding procedure. And also conserving brakes is the drivers responsibility. No one will keep flooring it if they see high EGT's or a bad a/f reading. The same goes for your brakes and tires. Remember its about winning the war, not the battle. Meaning its about the total lap, not that corner, or that braking zone. Smooth is fast. For example, I was running proformance friction street pads (Z) and never experienced fade and was only passed by one car.....The black AMS evo. Not trying to brag, just trying to prove a point. I barely have any mods to my car BTW.
Martin and AMS is planning on having more track days before the snow comes. Maybe we can show Autobahn staff that we lived and learned. And maybe, just maybe I'll bring out my E-Production Honda Prelude and see what kind of lap time we can run. 2300lbs with driver, slicks, and 220whp.
As for hoses popping off. Tighten with a socket! A screw driver is not enough, or get a T clamp form AMS and forget about it. If it does pop off, you CAN continue driving to the pits at half throttle without any damage. Just throw the blinkers on and drive at a slow pace to pit out with hand out signaling to drivers that you are slowing.
Also, let drivers pass. You may learn why they caught you. You are also more prone to mistakes being followed rather than following.
The tips I gave were simple. In any EVO, doesnt matter what turbo you're running, 5spd or 6spd, all you need around the north course is 3rd and 4th. Maybe 5th for high HP cars down the straight.
I could keep going. If we will be on the north course again, I will post a detailed explanation on how to drive the track, smoothly, safely and fast!
In addition, I do believe we should enforce a strict track off policy. Two wheels off and you must come in to talk to an instructor. Four wheels off, your session is done. Four wheel off again at all for the rest of the day, tech sticker pulled and track day over with no refunds. No one should ever be driving over their limit. I went to a driver school in France. Very far away... If you went 4 off at any time, your whole driver school is over. Even of it happened on the first day out of five. This taught me to never go off track and its helped me a ton!
Happy motoring!
