Ever thought of building?

Have any of you guys thought of building the world's fastest 4 cylinder as in top speed. I believe an srt-4 owns the record and we should steal it from them, and proboly could.

220+mph

Those rims actually serve a purpose. If you look at a lot of the cars that run at Bonneville they use those rims. They create a smooth air flow.

In the end...its still a Neon ....Im sure its quite fast and it would be interesting to see what AMS or other companies could do as far as top speed cars on the Flats.

There is a huge difference between an evo and an SRT4 in potential top speed. The evo's downfall is the awd. It creates more moving parts at such a high speed, vs an srt4 which only has the front wheels to worry about. An SRT4 with the same whp as an evo will walk away from the evo on the highway because of this same reason.

However, i would still love to see an evo win

The frontal area & CD of the EVO isn't exactly slicing through the air with ease either.

But in all reality, the SRT-4 isn't either.

Do it!

Running speed runs also has different classes etc.

StreamLined, 2wd, AWD etc.

The evo would fair with a 2WD conversion, and some minor streamlining. Also note that teh EVO is alot heavier that the SRT4. Add A Carbon fiber drive shaft, light weight wheels, a little diet and the evo would probably be a very tough car to beat. but then again you may be in a different class at that point.

I think AMS just got called out.

You guys make the motor. ( this would be a good chance to show off your 2.1L motor thats in the works and it would help to have that high reving setup.)

TRE make the trans.

APR can make you a nice aero package.

And your good to go. Once you make it a RWD car as well

I have looked into this and the safety requirements are enough to make you think about a new project.

Actually it can be quite the opposite. When I get back into finishing my 1g awd, it's main purpose will be LSR racing and attempting to take the doorslammer title in 1 mile events. At an event such as ECTA the added traction can be a bonus due to the limited distance you have to accelerate. Very high horsepower RWD or FWD cars typically spin for a while before they get traction and that wastes valuable acceleration time. A car that hooks can make the difference between a 200mph pass and a 220mph pass.

The slick surface at Bonneville is a downfall to several cars. At a certain point a wheel driven vehicle will not be able to accelerate any further due to aerodyamic drag being greater than the drive tires grip on the salt. AWD has yet another advantage by having two more drive tires than your typical car.
