AMS thoughts on Evo X

So I've been checking the 'Future Evo' forums every couple hours over the past month to catch any new info on the X. Most of it is just rumors and speculation peppered with some facts.

What is AMS's take on the X? Plan on picking one up right after release? SST or 5spd? I'd like an MR, which only comes with an SST - but reliability, durability, and modibility (is that a word?) are a concern for me. I'm kinda at a cross road between further modding my VIII, buying a new XI next spring as they will have their prices slashed to make way for the X, or just buying a X. The reason I am considering dropping the VIII is that it is higher mileage and was winter driven by the previous owner. I'd like to have a low mileage, garage kept car to invest upgrades into.

Any plans on retiring the shop VIII and replacing it with a X?

I am loving this. Just wait and see when the Evo X comes out. Personaly I love the way the new Evo X looks. I believe that the competitors are scared as hell of the new Evo X. Not only does it look good and handle like a dream, but just wait untill the tuners like AMS, Buschur, Vishnu .... etc. get their hands on it and start playing around with the car. First of all the engine is nothing less of spectacular. I am sure that aerodynamics are improved and it will help in straight line. I sell cars for a living and I have many friends that work for BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. They all tell me the same thing. Those cars bearly sell and they break down all the time. One of the worst is the BMW. They are all pissed off that the Evo X is coming out. They are going to have even more problems now selling their cars. They said that this year they where killed by the US cars and Jap. cars. European cars are not selling that much anymore.

Getting back to the subject. Evo X will be a superb car and it will rock. It will be just like a Prosche. Let me explain. Porsche is the only true race car for the street. If you where to go on a long trip, it will not get you tiered and you are very comfortabile. You have nice interior and crazy performance. Well think how the Evo X will be. Beautiful car, sweet interior, very comfortabile and super fast and crazy handling. What more can you ask for?

I only got one concern with the new Evo X. The block is different. 4G63's all have iron blocks (if i am wrong i will get rid my VIII). The new 4B11 T/C's (i think is the new engine code) is cast from aluminum. So will it be as strong/durable??

Couple of thoughts:

- SST will probably mean much leas "modibility" If it is anything like the Audi/VW DSG gearbox, then it will be tied to engine performance in some way, shape, or form. This means that as you mod your engine to make more power, you will start messing up the shift patterns, since the ECU will see load cells that it either wasn't expecting or wasn't programmed to ignore/handle.

- The X looks very promising. For a circuit-racing nut like myself the car looks very promising - although I don't like all of the electronic wizardry (SAWC) for track use, since it can breed poor driving habits. My all-mechanical VIII is bad/good enough already to mask poor habits. IMO the X will be a fantastic DD, but will require more work to turn into a dedicated track beast.

- The 4B11T ... [shrug] ... I don't really care about making 600+whp out of my street-car, so I'm probably a lot less worried than most about how much HP I can squeeze out of it. If it can be make to put down ~400whp on pump gas, I'll be happy.

The italian built 'Teksid' block that came in Mustang Cobras from 96-99 is aluminum and can withstand 700+ hp. Its just as strong as some of the iron blocks out there. I think people are making wayyyy too big a deal of the aluminum block issue.

A Local shop that does nothing but 03/04 cobras said theres nothing to be worried about aluminum blocks. They have turned out 1000+whp cobras and done on aluminum blocks. My buddy was getting his retuned after the whipple and nitrous install and i started asking questions because one of there motors in the corner had a aluminum block.

Personally im stickin with my 9 until i see some real results. Car and driver means jack crap to me. Ill wait until i see one of the big vendors get a hold of one and see what they can do with it. Im sure there will be lots of power to be made with the cars.

Oh and wasnt everyone afraid of the mivec system right before the 9's came out? a look at it now, a little food for thougt.

Do you realize the power difference per cylinder from a V8 to a 2.0? My 1000whp is comparable to a 3000hp V8 Much more load on bearings and cylinder walls.

Im not too worried about the aluminum block since Nissan's SR20 had been using them since 1991 and its easy to make 500+hp on the stock block. Like mentioned above if you decide to go with the SST trans than you'll have to not only tune the engine with all the mods you do, but you'll probably have to redo the shift maps as well.

I don't know much about the X's engine but has anyone else seen where the turbo is located? Its about 1 1/2 foot away from the drivers feet in the engine bay. Looks to me like it would hard to work on, but I'm no expert.
