for 2006 models

if they do become allowed, I would just get one in the states and import it myself

people out here in vancouver have brought back a brand new 2006 sti
from seattle, after exchange, all taxes, duty, and inspections
for around 45-46g
buying them locally will cost you 54-56g after taxes in BC anyways

The only downside to that is you can't get financing if you're not a US citizen or permanent resident. That means you'll need to buy the car outright.

Since Mitsu RAPES Evo buyers with financing, they're happy to sell the cars at or below sticker. They advertize 0% financing, but no one I know has gotten an Evo for better than 5% (I got stuck with 7%, but I was a very early buyer and demand was still very high). If you don't get financing, the dealers will generally NOT give you such a favorable price. So, you'd have to come up with an awful lot of cash to walk away with a brand new Evo 9.
