The Evo Ix Is Coming

I don't know where to put this or if it matters cause no one comes here anymore but i just came back from mitsu in london, ont, to fix some things with the car and while i was waiting i was talking to the owner of the dealership. He told me that a year from today that the evo ix was coming 100% sure . He said he got a call 3 weeks before from mitsu telling him that they'd be sending'em in. At first i was skeptical cause they always say that shxt but the manager told me that they've already bought a few loading trucks from the states to bring over the evo.... i'm so excited. forget moddin the lancer... i'm waiting for the EVO! muhaha

Funny, my dealer tells me the Evo 9 will not make it to Canada because of low projected sales figures. They're hopeful that the Evo 10 might make it...but I wouldn't hold my breath.

well apparently a certain amount of dealers are spending some money moddin the front bumper and other things in order for the 9 to pass through our stxpid tests and so only a limited amount will be sold in canada. i JUST heard it on the radio.. lol.. i know, i'm pretty skeptical but I HEARD IT ON THE RADIO! they said only a limited amt was coming to canada!

The Evo 9 is a "world market" car. That means that it already passes Canada's 5 mph impact test. In theory, you could import the car without any changes.

If a few dealers want to privately import a few Evo 9's into Canada, that's certainly possible. However, that's NOT the same as saying that the Evo 9 will be "available" in Canada. If Mitsubishi Canada does not officially import or promote the car in Canada, then it won't be widely available for purchase as a new car. Private imports (even if done by a dealer) will always be considered "used" cars.

I wish they just sold them here
I imagine the dealers here bringing them up
and modifying them, themselves
will bring the price well over 50g

Like I said, the dealers will not have to modify them. The only thing that kept the Evo 8 out of Canada was the 2.5 mph bumpers. I know because I tried to import mine and had MANY conversations, e-mails, etc. with Transport Canada about this.

The Evo 9 already has the 5 mph bumpers. In theory, the car is ready to be sold in Canada. I haven't checked the latest list, but last time I checked (maybe 2 months ago), the Evo 9 was NOT on the restricted for import list.

As for the price, I suspect it would be in the mid $40K range up to a max of $50K. Subaru dealers sell the STi for over $50K and seem to have no shortage of buyers. There's an STi on every street corner of Montreal. I doubt Mitsu dealers would have a hard time selling the Evo for $50K.

Remember, the real expense with the Evo is routine maintenance. It needs service and synthetic oil changes every 3K miles (that alone is like $100+ per month). Transfer cases need to be flushed every 6K miles and all driveline fluids need to be changed every 15K miles. Even careful drivers need new clutches every 25-30K miles. Stock tires barely last 10K miles. Most owners change pads and rotors every year and even these parts are obscenely expensive (for a Japanese car). Evos are very high-maintenance cars and parts prices are ridiculous. Plus, insurance prices are through the roof.

well I am sure if the IX were allowed in Canada
someone would have one by now

riv.ca does not have them listed either way as of now
for 2006 models

if they do become allowed, I would just get one in the states and import it myself

people out here in vancouver have brought back a brand new 2006 sti
from seattle, after exchange, all taxes, duty, and inspections
for around 45-46g
buying them locally will cost you 54-56g after taxes in BC anyways

side not, ok synthetic oil changes every 3 months/3000miles
how do you estimate this to be $100 a month or $300 per oil change
is there something I am missing, do they have some sort of odd filter

I do synthetic oild changes on my talon every three months
with OEM filters and mobile 1, and it cost me under $50

First, it generally takes me FAR less than 3 months to rack up 3000 miles. It's more like every 5-6 weeks. Then, I get all service done at the dealer. I know this isn't totally necessary, but I've had some warranty issues and it's MUCH easier to get this stuff covered if you have a good relationship with your dealer service center.

Most important, the 3000 mile service is more than just an oil change. There's some inspection, tire rotation, etc. that is part of the service. Again, I'm **** about warranty so I have the full service done. It ends up costing $150 per service and, like I said, I do this every 6 weeks or so...which comes out to about $100/month.
