OFFTOPIC chat thread!
i've owned the lancer for a while and that was my biggest grudge, car felt extremely heavy. otherwise i actually think it was pretty good
I was unfortunate tho.. I fish tailed my car and my rear right kissed the curb. Mitsu wants $4k (incl labor & taxes) for the repairs
I was so carefully and was happy that I almost made it home safe from work... 3 mins away from crib and i lost control and banged my baby :/
I am looking for private auto shops now to get better repair quotes now :sigh:

but seriously, do not go get it done at the dealership. they will rape you with almost everything (parts labor etc).
No cosmetic damage besides a slight rash on the rim..heck if some one looks at it, won't even say it took a hit.. But when I drive say between 70-85km/hr, i get rear vibration with a " brumm...brumm..brumm" sound every half seconds.. faster i go, higher the tempo the sound becomes and at 130 I get severe vibrations.
I suspected bent wheel so Just for safety check i took it to Stealership to get it diagnosed... Upon putting it on a hoist, they examined the rear and said the whole rear right assembly has to replaced coz the side impact was severe to push all the components to the left of the vehicle. And he pointed me to the rear right spring coils... and showed me the rod? inside the spring is shifted to the left almost touching the spring when compared to the rear left spring where the inside rod was perfectly centered inside the spring... Excuse my poor terminology !
He stated, for the rod to move that much left, the vehicle alignment is altered and not safe and everything has to be replaced including the rotors, ABS sensor, hub rings etc. He was pushing me to get the work done through insurance... I told him that I am not stupid to put a claim in for such damage which will jack my premium for the next couple of years..
I have attached the repair estimate. I am gonna take it to private auto shops to get a second opinion now and see how it goes from there. I am just praying its a bent rim and nothing much more. considering the rod moved, there's definitely one more component needs to replaced.

damn, how bad is the damage? which parts do you need to repair? post up some pics, and i'll forward them to a friend of mine who started his own body shop and i'll see if he can get it done for cheaper.

I was shocked too and was traveling abt 30KM/hr when i fish tailed. I mean the body took no hit and the side skirts all intact, just a 3inch rash on the rim and no damage to rubber. I was shocked when i heard the rear assembly had to be replaced...made me think our car aint that strong !
Lol, nothing will cheer me up. That last 5 secs b4 impact scene keeps replaying in my mind. Man, my heart broke upon impact. On the good note, nobody was around or got injured at that time. In fact i think it was karma... a minute b4 my impact i laughed at a car spin 180 and end up at the ditch.. a minute later was my turn lol.

I suggest you do talk to your insurance company about it, it may technically be claimed under a semi comprehensive claim, of course this depends on your insurance company. If it raises your premium by 25 to 30 dollars, for the next 2 years, I would do it
A) you pay over time, B) there is a chance it may not cost you anything if your insurance company has a not at fault for your first claim policy. it doesnt hurt to ask. lol your premium cant go up on its own just for you asking a question
Second were they quoting you 900 dollars for the RIM on that invoice? WTF

As for the rim, not $900 but $970.. I was baffled by that too and told them I can get four new aftermarket rims set for that price. I guess business is slow at pickering Mitsu.
its your call, but at the same time, if it counted as a "other" kinda claim , it may not be a direct strike against you. THe main point is, it doesnt hurt to ask. claim insurance, would be good because I think you dont have a set of winter tires yet. the best insurance you can get to protect yourself from that future accident your saving your get out of jail card for is to get the best winter tires possible. Prevention and preparation is the best defense. I have 300,000 km under my belt and never an accident. lol now the women in my life seem to like crashing my rides. my mom wrapped my mazda around a poll (driving on bad tires I told her need to be changed, dont take it) and my girlfriend two one front and semi write off and a rear ended on that isnt her accident. (her explaination was, it just happend)
As you can see, anything can happen. But I swear by winter tires and Statefarm has been really good on all 3 counts.

Mikron15: the lancer wheel actually costs that much (well technically speaking it doesnt cost that much, but thats the price they decide to sell them), i remember when i first got my lancer i asked my dealership (markham mitsubishi) and they also quoted me for 8xx for 1 so it would come up to 9xx with tax. yes it is a complete rip off for just some alloys (even volks single forged doesnt cost that much lol) so DO consider getting an aftermarket set of rims.
